Amelia
I knew that my time to say goodbye had come when July 4th hit.
We had, miraculously, convinced Charlie that it would be an incredible opportunity for Jasper, Emmet, Rosalie, and myself to travel before we "start college" in September. It was mostly Carlisle, Esme and Renée, with a bit of help from Jaspers abilities.
Of course that's not what we would actually be doing. At least not Jasper and I, but we had come up with an incredibly detailed itinerary and promised that we would call at least twice a week.
I knew this wouldn't be easy. But standing in front of my father, hugging him goodbye, knowing that this would be the last time I would see him for quite some time, I nearly cried. Time had seemed to fly by these last few weeks.
His arms are wrapped around my shoulders and mine around his waist, squeezing tightly as I take in the moment.
"I can't believe you're leaving already." he mumbles with a sigh.
"It's just for a little traveling before school starts." I reassure him.
"Traveling on land before traveling by sea. Yeah...great." he sighs.
"Bella is going to meet me at the Cullens, I'll say bye to her there and leave the truck with her." I explain as I reluctantly pull away, still unsure of whether or not I would cry.
"Have you said goodbye to the boys on the res?" he clears his throat. "Billy was asking when you're set to leave." he explains.
"No, I'm going over before I go to the Cullens." I explain, pushing some of my hair behind my ear.
"Well, I guess that's it then. You have everything you need?" This must have been the fiftieth time he had ask just today.
"I do." I nod, glancing towards the back of the truck which held a majority of what was in my bedroom. Enough to appear as though I really was traveling and planning to live on a ship.
"And you're absolutely sure about this? He's not pressuring you is he?" Charlie's eyebrows pull down as he frowns at the thought.
"No dad, he's not pressuring me. I'm doing this because I want to. It's an incredible opportunity, I can't pass it up." I offer a half smile, knowing the double meaning behind some of my words.
"Before you go," he sighs, scratching his neck as he pauses, "I just...do we need to have the talk?" both of our faces were been bright red in that moment.
"Dad, I'm good." I stammer, not wanting to have this talk with my father.
"I just want you to be...safe." he grimaces.
"Dad, I promise you, we don't need to have this conversation. Mom did the moment I told her I was friends with boys at school. In elementary." I laugh awkwardly, covering my face with my hands to hide the blush.
"Alrighty then." he says, clearly thankful that we didn't need to discuss anything further.
After the moment of awkwardness passes, I find myself aching to hug him again.
"I love you, dad." I hug him tightly once more, burying my head in his chest just like I used to when I was little.
"I love you too kiddo." he squeezes gently.
He watches as I climb into the truck and slowly pull out of the driveway. I'm thankful that Alice convinced Jasper to let me drive myself this morning, he wanted to be here for me but I knew I would need a little time to simply be alone with my thoughts and feelings.
