Amelia

When we pulled up to the Cullens and I didn't see Jasper, I feared the worst, but Edward assured me he was safely inside.

The moment we got inside I understood why he hadn't met us outside. The beautiful man was in the house, being carefully watched by everyone as Esme was running around pulling the window shutters down.

Jasper was by my side the moment that I stepped through the door, relief spread through my body the moment I saw him, and could feel him, and know that he was ok.

We spent the next several minutes planning our escape routes.

Alice had seen so many variations of who would go where that I was only more confused as they discussed it.

In the end, it was decided that Edward and Jasper had to split from us, which left me feeling breathless, like all the air had been knocked from my lungs. Carlisle, Edward, Rosalie, and Esme would lead them the wrong way.

Jasper would drive back to Charlie's tonight, and he would act as if he were looking for me to make sure I was ok after he hadn't heard from me. Charlie would probably tell him we had left. He would watch over Charlie until Alice and Edward were certain he was safe.

Jasper and I hadn't let go of each other since I had arrived. His arm was wrapped protectively around my shoulders while I clung to his waist.

"Best say your goodbyes now. There's no telling when this will be over." Carlisle sighs, a hand on Jaspers shoulder. Jasper nods with a sigh.

I allow myself to really memorize every detail of his face in that moment. It seemed he was doing the same. He was the one to speak first.

"I'll see you soon alright darlin. We'll take care of them, and you'll be able to come back home, don't do anything...reckless, promise me." he pulls me to his chest, his forehead against mine.

"Promise you'll come back to me." I murmur, holding back tears as I breath in his scent one more time, he smelled of fresh pine trees, rain, and eucalyptus.

"I'll come back to you. Every time." he runs his thumb gently across my cheek. His words almost allow me to breath normally again, but I couldn't stop the feeling that all the air had been knocked from my lungs.

I feel a tear slide down my cheek. I want desperately to tell him something more, but I wouldn't do that now. I couldn't risk him being any more concerned or distracted because of me. I wouldn't.

Alice tells us it's time to go.

Once Bella and I were in the car, Emmett hits the gas pedal hard, the tires squeal as he drives out of the garage.

Emmett grumbles, he had demanded he go with Edward and the others, something about a favor. Alice insisted that this was the best case scenario and he finally gave in.

"We're doing the right thing." I try to reassure Bella-despite my own fears-though I could see the fear in her eyes.

"I'll be watching his every decision." Alice adds.

"Plus, it's not like he would get through me." Emmett nods, fully confident in his abilities.

"Well I'm happy that you're with us." I nudge his shoulder as he drives. This seemed to lift his spirits some as he starts on about how he was surprised that Edward and Jazz trusted him enough with us that they wanted him to be with us too.

I lean my head against the window, shutting my eyes as I let the quiet hum of the car lull me to sleep as Emmett talks about whatever pops into his head.
