" come on it's time to get up "
" I um I don't feel to good "
I sat up and looked at my phone and at the date
" I'm late "
" what do you mean "
He said as he sat down and started to gently rub my back
" Buck my period it's late "
" how late "
" Two weeks at least "
" umm umm ok just a call Bobby and tell him you won't be in I'm sorry but I have to go"
He had a smile on his face and I watched as he ran out the door and I called Bobby
" Hey Ruby what's up "
" I'm sorry but I won't be in today "
" that's ok you did get hit pretty hard yesterday "
I didn't even think about the call that we had yesterday. It was a hiker that went over the side of the cliff and when they were pulling him back up I heard a man yelling. When I turned around there was a man running at us and without thinking I stepped in front of him so he wouldn't get to Buck and Eddie where they were pulling the guy back up. He tackled me and knocked the wind out of me but I managed to hold him back
" Ruby "
" sorry um thank you "
" yeah feel better ok "
" Yeah I'll try "
I hung up and made a doctor's appointment.
The woman walked in after doing some test
" you were pregnant "
" what "
" it says that you were 6 weeks along "
" wa-was is it my fault "
" were you hit in the stomach "
" umm I was tackled yesterday at work "
" what do you do "
" fire and rescue "
" ok well from the looks of it you're body was going to do this sadly it's not your fault Ruby sometimes things just don't get along you know "
" yeah "
I fought back tears
" I'm truly sorry "
" it's fine "
I gave her a fake smile
" well you're good to go "
" thank you "
She gave me a quick smile then left the room. I took a deep breath and then I left.
