Ruby's pov
I shot up gasping for breath
" Hey hey what's wrong "
He said as he sat up
" I just had a bad dream "
" what about "
" I was 9 months and you were at work and there was an earthquake and I went into labor and I was stuck here and you wouldn't pick up "
I started crying and he pulled me back down with him so my head was on his chest and I started to calm down because he was running his hand up and down my arm. We didn't talk we were just in each other's presence till his 7 am alarm went off to ruin it all
" Maybe you should "
He started
" I'm not going to stay home today I'm fine it was just a bad dream "
" ok "
We got up and he took a shower. I put on one of his black sweat shirts and a pair of blue jeans I went downstairs and made him a coffee.
When we walked into the station it was like I could leave the events of the last day at the door and I could be a different person I guess.
We had just finished breakfast when the bell went off we got in the truck and Bobby said
" it's a jumper a woman in her mid-20s and she's on an overpass "
The mood in the truck changed as we got closer and closer when we got there Bobby said
" ok Two you got this one Buck go with her "
We quickly got up there and I said to the woman
" hello "
" hi "
She said in a shaky voice
" I'm just going to come down there so it's easier for us to talk ok "
She nodded and Buck helped me onto the small walkway
" so umm a what's got you up here today "
She started to pace a little and she said
" he left me he fucking left me for something that wasn't my fault "
I quickly realized I saw her at the doctor's yesterday
" she gave you the same talk didn't she "
" what "
I sat down with my legs over the edge
" you you were there now I remember "
" yeah and you dint see me up here there are so many options... do you believe in god "
" yes "
She said and I looked up and saw the small cross necklace she had on
" and I bet you're wondering why he did this to you "
" yes "
" well it's just one of his strange ways of telling you the time and the person just isn't right I mean who leaves after that "
" you're right I will be he didn't leave you "
" nope and in fact, he's right there "
She looked up at Buck and I got up
" see the time just wasn't right and that's ok and the kid doesn't need to be blood for you to love it right "
" yeah "
" what do you say we get down from here the right way "
She nodded and we got off the sign and when they took her I said to Buck
" of course, the first call would be like this "
" yeah "
He kissed me and we walked back down to the truck
" you guys ok "
Eddie said
" yeah why "
I said and I looked at Buck and I could see the sadness on his face
" ok well you guys ready "
We got in and Buck put his hand over mine and I put my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes for a second and Eddie said
" God I thought that would have worn off by now "
" it's only been five months Eddie "
Buck said and put his head gently on mine we moved once the truck started to move but he still had his hand on mine.
