After being at the station for twenty minutes we had a call for a car accident which went super quick. When we got back Ruby was washing the truck Eddie and I were in the locker room
" Hey umm does she seem ok "
I said and he gave me a confused look
" who Ruby why "
" Something happened yesterday and I don't know am I missing something "
" like what "
He said and I looked down at my hands and said
" the lady today the one on the overpass Ruby saw her at the doctor's yesterday "
" ok and "
" you have to promise not to tell anyone and not let her know I told you got it "
I looked him dead in the eye with a straight face and his small smile fell
" yes "
" Ruby umm had a miscarriage "
" oh my god is she ok "
" I don't know she was kinda sad on the way here this morning then she changed when we walked in like a superhero putting on there mask "
" How are you doing "
" I don't know I found out she was pregnant and had a miscarriage in one sentence when I got home last night "
He hugged me and said
" I'm so sorry "
He stepped back and said
" well we better get back out there before they send someone to find us "
I could tell he didn't want to look at me because it was hard for him. We were sitting on the couch watching Hen and Chim play a game and I said
" you know we never did have a honeymoon "
She looked up at me with a smile on her face
" what you didn't like the two days off that we had "
We spent a lot of time in bed that weekend I laughed a little
" I did but I don't know I kinda want to go somewhere "
" ok "
She said and looked back at the tv and I was messing with her hair. A few minutes later Chim lost and demanded a rematch just as they started Ruby said
" Italy "
She looked up with a big smile on her face
" yeah "
Soon the bell rang and we were off to a fire and I could tell she was happy.
