Carlos stopped, eyes unfocused and smoky with a red glow. He turned slowly, scanning every inch of the room with his maroon eyes.
Nothing. He could see nothing.
There was a hushed whisper from behind him and he spun, jumping backward reflexively. A boy and girl stumbled into the spot Carlos had been standing, a mixture of anger and confusion on their faces.
The boy swung for Carlos's head. "Shit - Soph - his eyes - " He ducked under Carlos's own right hook.
"I see them, Ky." The girl snuck behind Carlos as the two kept fighting. She slid her arm around his neck quickly and pulled, surprising him enough for the boy to land a punch to his head.
The man slumped in the girl's arms and the two of them dragged him to the wall.
"You - you were there, right?" She grabbed a sheet from a corner of the room, twisting it into a rope and tying Carlos's arms together. "Can we fix him?"
"I don't know."
The two of them stood up cautiously before going over to the door and sliding a couch in front of it. The girl shut her eyes.
"You okay?"
"I- wait a second."
A concerned look passed over his face.
"Now he's mad." She laughed quickly. "Wow. Nice save. I'm sure they believed that." She bit her lip. "Oh my god..."
"What? What is it?"
She opened her eyes and looked towards the boy. "They're coming into town."
"Who?"
"Noah and April. And a few other kids, I think."
"What? How? Where are they?"
"I don't know. I think they're in the forest, from the looks of things. I hadn't said anything until now."
"Does that mean...?"
She paused. "Yes."
