Noah was confused.
Of course he was confused about who the voices were from the forest, and confused about Whitney, and confused about how all these memory- and personality-blocking things worked, but that was stuff he was used to being confused about at this point. That was 'Hey, if we don't figure this shit out, people could die, so we should probably work through this' confusion, and that was normal for him.
What wasn't normal was this new...feeling.
It was hard to describe. It wasn't exactly excitement, and it wasn't exactly terror, and it wasn't exactly dread. It was just...there. And the fact that he had no clue what it was, or what to do about it, or why it suddenly spiked whenever he looked in Cooper's direction, was confusing.
He walked out of the room, watching Cooper move out from behind him before deciding that he couldn't look at Cooper. So he looked towards April, letting the door swing shut behind him, his mind racing.
What? What is this? What's happening? Am I scared of him? No. Am I worried about him? I mean, yeah. Why?
His thoughts slammed into a brick wall.
                              Why what?
He heard people talking, not directly to him, but to each other. He looked towards the ground, mind in the middle of a metaphorical battlefield.
Why are you worried about him?
                              He's my friend.
What about the others? Aren't you their friends, too?
                              Of course.
Then why aren't you as worried about them?
Noah had no answer, his ears buzzing and arms numb.
Why are you concerned? Why do you care more right now? What changed?
                              What changed?
Noah thought back to a few minutes ago.
                              What happened? What changed?
He froze, his breath catching as the realization smacked him in the face.
                              Oh my god.
                              You're in love.
