Artifacts
The Artifacts from old are passed down through families. Few are entirely unique, but those, wherever they are, and whoever's hands they might be in, hold a power in a class unto their own.
Artifacts are objects that can be worn or held, and each contains a power that allows its holder to channel their energy through the Artifact, resulting in
One of the most well known Artifacts is the first one to ever be made; also known as Quint's Scepter. Its creator is unknown. It is rumored to have the spirit of the god of light, Quint, inside the orb at one end of the staff. This shall always be wielded by those who have the blood of the Ancestor running through their veins, as anyone else will burst immediately into flames should they lay a finger on it. Because of this, families whom the scepter belongs to are advised to only have one child. Whoever is the current wielder of the Scepter is known as the Sacred Knight, and are usually close and trusted advisors to the king.
Should a Sacred Knight be under the age of 18 when given the scepter, for any reason, they are advised to choose a Guardian, the only requirement being that they must be of an older age than the Knight. The Guardian can only be chosen by the Sacred Knight, and the two usually form a strong bond, both in trust and friendship. Potential Guardians can deny the Knight's request of protection, should they feel themselves unworthy.
Guardians, once chosen, receive an Artifact from the goddess of protection, Nja. This comes in the form of metal arm guards engraved with protection emblems and can form an energy barrier of any size, while at the same time using less energy than if it had been a power or a different Artifact. Once the Sacred Knight has turned 18, however, the guards will lose their extraordinary power and will be on par with other Artifacts of the time. The Guardian can chose to either keep them or to return them to the gods once this happens.
                              Powers
Powers are found in the younger children of families. Many are envied, as their Powers are embedded in their soul and cannot be taken away or transferred as Artifacts can. However, they use energy just the same and produces the same effects as their materialistic counterparts.
The younger a child is, the more likely it is that they will have a Power. For example, the first-born child in a family will likely be born powerless, with the second- and third-born increasing the probability of a Powered child. However, some first-born children are known to have Powers, and it is entirely possible for one to have both a Power and an Artifact at birth should the family have a sufficient quantity for the Powered child and their older siblings.
No one knows where Powers originate from or what they are connected to, though some hypothesize that they strengthen and recede on the anniversary of one's day of birth.
