Chrysie snuck around the castle, trying to find their way around. There was one close call with a guard, but they ducked out of the way just in time and snuck by. They crept down the hall, overhearing voices. They stopped and listened.
"...Okay! Okay, I'm going." They recognized it as Prince Ky's voice and peered around the corner to see the young prince walking into a room with his hands up, guards standing on either side. They shut the door. Chrysie could hear the lock echoing from where they were. The guards stiffly walked down the hall they came from, away from Chrysie. They double checked that no one was coming and crept to the door, removing the key from their neck and sliding it carefully into the lock.
"Come on, April..." they muttered, turning it. The door unlocked with a smooth click and they pushed it open, startled to see a boy about her age and a girl a little older than April standing there, both in a defensive stance. They threw their hands up. "Whoa, whoa, calm down, not gonna...I don't know. Not gonna do anything." They watched the two of them look at each other and slowly let down their guard. "Alright, so you guys are okay?"
"How did you get in here? I thought they locked the door."
Chrysie stuttered, searching for a lie. "I-I picked it. The lock."
The girl looked skeptical but let it go. "I'm Sophie." Chrysie saw the swirling black design on the right side of her face but didn't say anything.
"Chrysie. Your parents sent me to make sure you both are okay." They walked backwards, fiddling with the key in their pocket. "I-I should probably go, uh...go-"
"Stay! Please?" Sophie whispered the words quietly. "Just for a few minutes?"
Chrysie stopped ridgedly. "I really should go." she muttered, voice wavering. "Please. Let me go."
Sophie looked down. "Alright." Chrysie still didn't move from her spot, stiff and unmoving. "You can go." Chrysie started to run as Sophie spoke one last time. "Will you be back?"
They spun. "Maybe. I don't know. I'm sorry," they whispered to themselves as they wound through the halls. "I'm sorry..."
