Commercial muna! Let me tell you about Tine's illness so you can understand, okay?
Huntington's disease (HD) is an inherited, progressive brain disorder that leads to uncontrolled movements, emotional instability, and loss of intellectual faculties. Because of its inheritability, each child born to a parent with Huntington's has a 50% chance of inheriting the disease. This leads to a prevalence of almost 1 in 10,000 Canadians (0.01%).
It is caused by an inherited faulty gene and can have a debilitating effect on people's lives by robbing them of their brain functions. Over time, damage to brain cells can affect sufferers' behavior, movement, and thinking, including their judgment, perception, and awareness. Some have described it as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and motor neurone disease all rolled into one.
While there is still no cure for this disease, researchers are actively working to develop new treatments and therapies that can improve the lives of those affected by Huntington's. We can all offer support and encouragement to those living with this challenging condition, knowing that hope for a brighter future remains.
