Rey stares into his beautiful brown eyes before he vanishes, his essence returning to the Force.
He gave up his life for her. just doesn't understand how. It was unlike anything she'd ever seen.
Her grief is overwhelming.
Trying to stall her tears, she puts on her helmet and climbs into Luke's old X-wing. She switches on the engine and flies off, fighting a flow of emotion. She sets the ship's auto pilot and makes her way to Ajan Kloss to join the others.
When she lands, people start coming up to congratulate her.
She doesn't care.
All she wants is to find Finn and Poe.
Rey searches the massive crowd for them until she sees them run towards her. They wrap their arms around her, and she holds them close.. She forgets for a moment that Ben is gone.
Ben.
She breaks away from the hug, choking on words she cannot seem to say.
"Are you alright?" Finn asks, brow wrinkled and eyes wide.
Rey closes her eyes. "I need to tell you something very important. It's... it's about Ben."
"You can tell us anything," Finn assures her.
She ushers Finn and Poe to a private spot in the surrounding trees. Rey takes a deep breath. "The only reason I'm here right now is because of Ben. He sacrificed himself for me."
Finn gives her a look of disbelief. "He wouldn't do that! He's evil!"
Poe puts his hand on Finn's shoulder, saying, "Rey wouldn't lie to us. Although, I will admit... I am a bit confused."
"When I was up there, with Palpatine, I... I died. Ben was up there fighting with me. He made me come back to life, and then... he died. A life for a life."
Poe takes her hands as she begins to cry, holding them for a few seconds before saying, "We trust you. We believe you. And we'll forever be grateful that Ben saved you. As far as heroes go, Ben is definitely one in our book. Right, Finn?"
Finn gives Poe a look, sympathy in his eyes for Rey, yet still with contempt for Kylo Ren. Looking back at Rey, Finn reluctantly replies, "Yeah. He was a hero."
