June 2020

I thought I heard someone rummaging through the drawers but I couldn't be sure, my mind still full of sleep. I rolled over, expecting to see Milo, but he wasn't there. I stopped, remembering he had spent the night at Owen's, so I was watching Kayla. I opened my eyes and looked around the room, Milo was already home, and putting his things away.

"Hey," I said, clearing my throat.

That surprised him at bit, but he turned to look at me.

"Good morning, Beautiful," He smiled, coming to kiss me softly.
"Good morning," I whispered, covering his mouth with mine, "What's Kayla doing?"
"She's still asleep," He said, pulling away, just long enough to wink at me.
I grinned, "Perfect."

He chuckled as he pulled his t-shirt over his head, easily. Removing his shirt that I was wearing in one swift movement. I noticed the door was open, but I figured it would be fine, since Kayla was still asleep.

"Oh, Baby," He said, kissing down my jawline and onto my neck.

I was sure he was leaving hickey's but at that moment, I couldn't have cared less. I fumbled to get his shorts off, leaving him in a pair of boxers.

"Meg!" Kayla said, running into our room.

We stopped dead in our tracks and looked at her.

"I am so sorry," She said, covering her eyes and backing out if the room.
I chuckled, redressing, "You're fine, Kayla. We need to go downstairs anyways."

"So how have you two been?" Kaitlyn asked, giddily, "Do I hear any wedding bells in the near future?"
I chuckled lightly, fiddling with my diamond engagement ring, "We have a date in mind, but we can't say anything until we are for sure. It wont be this year or next year, though."

Kaitlyn and I were out for lunch, while Milo was at home with Kayla. I invited her, just to ask her a sinple question.

Katie sighed, "Have you decided on any details? Color scheme, wedding party, anything you can tell me?"
I smiled, "Actually...That's what I wanted to meet with to tell you...well ask you."
"Okay!" Katie urged, "Come on! Tell me!"
"I know the wedding's not for another two years, but...Would you be my maid of honor?" I asked, taking her hands.
She squealed and jumped up to hug me, "Of course, Babygirl! It'd be my honor!"
I laughed, "Thank you, so much!"

We continued to discuss wedding details.

After my lunch with Kaitlyn, I was supposed to meet my friend Miranda at her boyfriend's pond, because she was swimming there. I was going to pick her up, and we would go shopping, and that's where I was gonna ask her to be my bridesmaid.

I drove my car to the pond, only to notice no one was there. I parked my car and got out, cautiously, expecting them to scare me. No one. I walked around the small pond.

"Miranda?" I called, "Miranda? It's Meg!"

I waited for a response, but when I got none, I started to get nervous.

"Miranda? It's Meg!" I received no response, "Come on! Don't try to scare me! Come out! You got me."

When I still got no response, I began freaking out, but tried to keep my cool.

I called her boyfriend, and within three rings he answered.

"Hello, Meg?" He asked.
"Hey, Luke," I said, shaking my hand, "Have you seen Miranda?"
"No..." His voice trailed off, "She said she was going to call me when she left the pond. She should still be there."
"Well, she's not and I can't find her anywhere," I told him.
"Okay, I'll be right there," He hung up the phone and I began breathing heavily, trying to calm myself down.

I called her family and close friends, but still couldn't find anything. I found her clothes and phone folded in a pile, on the dock. That didn't help my nerves. I couldn't help it, so I quickly dialed 911.

"911, what's your emergency?" The operator answered.

I gave them the address and told them that Miranda was missing. They said they would send police out right away. With shaking hands, I called Milo, who was at home with Kayla.

"Hey, Meg," He greeted, happily, "How's it going?"
I sniffed, "Milo..." My voice trailed off.
I could hear him stiffen, "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
Tears began to run down my face, "I came out to the pond to pick Miranda up, but....She's not here. Her clothes are folded on the dock, and her phone's here. I called 911, but...I need help."
"I'm on my way, now," He said, "Kayla, I'm going to call either Kaitlyn or Mason to come watch you."

I could hear her asking what was wrong and Milo shushing her.

"Okay, Baby. I have to go, because I'm driving, but I'll be there in five minutes." He explained, "I love you."
"I love you too," I sniffed.

I waited for a while, but soon enough three cop cars came pulling in. I tried to dry my eyes, but tears kept spilling out of them. While a few cops began to investigate, one came to question me. The officer was tall and looked to be a little bit older than me.

"I'm Officer Byrd," He introduced, "Can you please explain what happened?"
I took a deep breath, "I was supposed to pick her up to go shopping. I got here and her clothes and phone were here, but she's not," I inhaled a shaky breath.
"Okay, Miss..?"
"Donnelly." I said, shaking my head, "Meg Donnelly."
"Oka-" He began.
"Meg!" I heard Milo shout.

I looked around to find him and when I saw him, I waved him over. He began coming to me. When he reached me, he embraced me tightly.

"Milo," I cried, burying my face in his chest, "We can't find her."
He sighed and held me tighter, "It will all work out."

The officer caught up to me.

"I'm sorry, this investigation is not opened to the public," He told Milo and Kayla, "Unless you're a witness, I will have to ask you to leave."

I pulled away from Milo, wiping my tears and looked back to the officer.

"Officer, this is Milo, my fiance," I explained.
His face visibly hardened, but I didn't think anything of it, "Nice to meet you. The name's Officer Byrd."

Milo nodded in acknowledgment, keeping a comforting hand around my shoulders as I leaned into him.

He asked us questions, before shutting his notebook.

"We have scheduled to drag the lake tomorrow morning at eight o'clock. There are no signs of foul play, or struggle. We will contact her family members and friends, see if she's possibly at her house or just out somewhere. We will let you know if we find her or if not. If we cannot find her, we will be dragging tomorrow. You are welcome to come." He said, nodding before turning and going to join his fellow officers.

"Milo," I turned around and sobbed in his chest, "What if she's..?" I couldn't bring my self to say it.
"Shh, Baby," He whispered into my ear, "Don't think about it, unless we have to."
"I love you," I leaned my ear against my fiance's chest, listening to his slightly quickened heartbeat.
"I love you, too," He said, turning to kiss my head.

Hey guys! I've been meaning to publish this, since Saturday, but I got busy and then two of my dogs went missing on Sunday morning, but we got a call and they're in the pound, so it's been crazy and writing completely left my mind. Anyways, I decided to publish this, as I wait for my mom to come home, so we can go pick the dogs up. I hope you enjoyed!!!
