June 2020

We were soon dismissed and Milo and I left. It was the last day in June, so it was hot, muggy, and sticky outside. When we eventually pulled into the driveway, I saw that both Mason and Kaitlyn were there.

I entered the house and saw that the three of them were playing a board game.

"Hey, Babe," Kaitlyn frowned, sympathetically.
"Hey, Honey," I said, sighing deeply.

I wasn't going to cry if there was a chance that she was just at home.

"Oh, Baby Girl," She said, hugging me, tightly, "It'll be okay."
I sniffled into her shoulder, "I don't have a good feeling about this."

She put a hand against the back of my head, until I pulled away.

"Hey, Meggers," Mason said, hugging me, rubbing my back gently.
"Hi, Mason," I said, burying my head into his shoulder.

When we finally pulled apart, I looked at Kayla, Milo, Mason, and Kaitlyn.

"Thank you guys for being here for me," I smiled through the pain.

They all nodded and hugged me again.

"I have to head, but call me if you need anything else," Mason spoke, offering us a smile, before leaving.
"I don't have a social life, so I can stay as long as you like," Katie joked, causing me to let out a watery chuckled.
"Thanks, Katie," I hugged her once again, before we all sat down.

I explained to them all what exactly happened and we made small talk for a while, before Katie left and we all headed up for bed.

It wasnt long until my phone rang, I quickly answered, though disappointed that it was not Miranda.

"Hello?" I asked.
"Meg Donnelly?"
"That's me," I said.
"This is Officer Byrd," The voice on the other end answered.
"Officer!" I exclaimed, "Any update?"
I heard him sigh, "We have contacted all of Ms. Granger's relatives on her possible whereabouts, but none of them have seen her since this morning."
I groaned as I felt I had been punched in the gut, "And this means..?"
"While it is still possible that she was abducted or ran away, that us veey unlikely, and our best bet at the moment is a possible drowning."
I squeezed my eyes shut, "Thank you, Officer."
"You're welcome," He said, before I hung up the phone.

When Milo entered and closed the door behind him, I was already laying in my pajamas on the bed. My eyes were bloodshot, my head ached, and I felt as though I had no tears left to cry. Milo turned off the lights, changed, and crawled into bed next to me. He leaned over and kissed the side of my head, before wrapping his arms around me, tightly, pulling my back to his stomach.

"Milo," I mumbled.
"Hm?" He asked.
"What do you think happened to Miranda? Do you think she's okay, somewhere?" I asked, my voice shaky.
He took a deep breath, before answering, "I hope so, Baby. I really hope so."

I nodded, before drifting off to sleep.

I awoke to Milo, sitting on the bed next to me.

"Baby," He shook me, slightly, "We have to go."

It took me a moment to process what he said, but when I did, I took a sharp breath.

"Here," He said, handing me a cup of coffee, "Drink this and then get ready."

It was then that I saw, Kayla standing behind him.

"Thanks," I murmured, sipping the hot beverage.
He placed a kiss on the top of my head, "We'll get out of here, so you can get ready."

I nodded a thanks before getting up to get ready. I slid on a white crop top and leggings, and deciding it was too cold, I put on a sweatshirt, over my crop top, before getting ready to leave.
I joined Milo and Kayla downstairs, as we got ready to go.

The car came to a stop and I was the first to get out. I hadn't cried much that morning, but I was pooped from the day before. Milo, Kayla, and I walked over to where Officer Byrd sat, instructing the drag.

He smiled, sadly when he saw me coming toward him.

"Any news?" I asked, quietly.
"No," He shrugged, patting my shoulder lightly, "I'm sorry."
"I-if they find her...?" My voice trailed off.
"She's only been missing for a day, so if we do find a body and if it's hers, it will still be recognizable," He answered me.

I nodded and stepped away, with Milo and Kayla. Milo wrapped me in a tight hug.

"We don't know, yet," He whispered into my hair.

They began the drag and Milo and I were wrapped in each others embrace.

They stopped multiple times, but each was because they got caught on a rock.

"Whoa! Stop!" Officer Byrd called out.

I frowned, my heartbreat quickened, my palms became clammy, and I clung to Milo a little tighter. I felt his grip tighten as well.

They raised the crane thing and there, on the very top, lie Miranda.

"No," I turned my head into Milo's chest, "This isn't real."

The pain I felt was unbearable, and I didn't remember anything else that happened. Just Milo kissing my head, repeatedly, and hugs. Lots and lots of hugs.

"I'm so sorry, Meggo," Milo said, pulling me close and not letting go.

The next thing I knew, Milo was waking me up and telling me we had to get ready for her viewing.

This chapter took me a while to write and I definitely struggled with writers block, but....It's finished! I'm preparing a special Halloween chapter, but it might be a little bit late for the holiday. Furthermore, I hope you enjoy this chapter!
