Chapter 49 - The Last E-mail

TAMED XLIX - THE LAST ELECTRONIC MAIL

THROUGHOUT the night, my mind was consumed by a swarm of worries, leaving me feeling like a sleep-deprived zombie come morning. As I trudged my way to school, I struggled to muster up the energy to function properly, my thoughts still clinging to me like a shroud.

My day didn't begin on a brighter note either, as for the third time in my university's history, I forgot to bring my ID with me. A sense of unease crept up on me, as I couldn't shake the feeling that this was somehow a foreboding omen. In my experience, days that began with such a misstep often ended up taking a turn for the worse.

"Nagmamakaawa po ako, Ma'am Ordoño. Baka naman po pwede pa ring i-consider iyong answers ko? Tama naman po lahat ng sagot ko, maling kulay lang ng pen ang nagamit ko sa charting."

"Miss Abvelino, you ignored my instructions completely. This is a major subject, and you're going to be a healthcare provider soon. Following basic instructions is essential, and your disregard for them is unacceptable."

"Pero ma'am, baka kasi makaapekto ito sa scholarship ko."

"No excuses. Your failure to follow instructions means you will fail."

And that's how my day went downhill. Failing a subject I never thought I would.

"Hoy, tuyo na 'yang highlighter mo! Kung 'di mo naman pala gagamitin, takpan mo na lang girl," sipat ni Faye sa akin. Abala silang mag-tsismisan at mas pinili kong mag-review na lang dahil hindi rin ako nakakabay sa kanila.

Si Richelle at Jazzver lang naman kasi kasama ko kanina pero rumami kami dahil nagsulputan na rin sina Reign, Movriah, at Faye.

"Naghahanap ba kayo ng bagong tambayan? Bukas na raw itong Secret Rooftop!" anyaya ni Jazzver, sabay balandra niya sa screen ng kanyang cellphone sa aming harapan. "Magdadalawang taon daw 'tong sarado, ngayon lang ulit binuksan. Maganda mag-picture do'n, pang-OOTD!"

"Robles may exam pa tayo, mag-review ka na lang kaya?" suway ni Richelle sa kanyang kadaldalan.

"Jazz, where did you see it?" Reign asked enthusiastically. Richelle and I seemed to be the only ones who weren't interested in their conversation and just silently exchanged stares.

Faye, who's as energetic as Jazzver, suggested, "Check it out on the official website of the school, or check our group chat!"

Reign's jaw dropped in shock and she sprang up from her seat, "Wait, what?!"

Every head at the table turned towards her, as she locked eyes with Liam, who had sauntered over to us without even a greeting.

"Sounds like a blind item to me," Movriah seriously commented.

"Don't just take my word for it, guys. The Cambridge Secret Files page has some juicy details that you won't want to miss. Head over there now and check it out," Liam urged, a hint of urgency in his voice. "May takip 'yung muka ng babae, at sure akong babae 'yon kasi long hair at may saktong boobs."

I tried to tune out their conversation and focus on my reviewer, but their sudden gasps caught my attention. As I looked up, I saw all eyes were on me, their puzzled expressions making it clear that I had missed something. I could feel their unspoken criticism and disappointment as they exchanged meaningful glances, leaving me feeling left out and out of the loop.
