POV: Gadget

As I left the apartment block, I tried to remember where Eggman's fortress was, it had been some time since I last saw it. All of Eggman's bases have been left for dust, the Resistance collected any important information from them after the war then left them abandoned as they would have no use  for the buildings.

I remember all the times I came across the bases during the war. They were small but were very weaponized, with dangerous small robots and traps waiting for people to get stuck in. Eggman knew what he was doing when it came to traps and weapons, his robots were deadly - but easily destroyed.

I guess that's why he was defeated quite easily.

Eventually, I reached the abandoned battlefield. Sometimes I still feel the stress of the task I had during the final stage of the war, it's something I would always remember.

The scorching heat of the artificial sun that could cook anyone in mere seconds if it got any closer to us.

Glancing up at the real sun brought back the horrors of that fake one.

Madness, Gadget. That fake one is long gone now.

The battlefield itself hasn't really changed, and in the middle was Eggman's fortress - or what's left of it.

After Eggman disappeared, the fortress failed to hold itself together and some of it collapsed after months of abandonment. Nobody came near the base after the war, they had more important things to take care of, not even the Resistance.

The heat of the sun burned down onto my short fur, it was very hot outside today. I could swear I heard sizzling but passed it off, this ain't the first time I've fought against the sun be it fake or real, I'm pretty used to it by now.

Well, used to danger that is, no matter how miniscule or how threatening.

Sweat dripped down my forehead and neck, I rushed to the fortress to get some shade and cool down. Thankfully the metal of the fortress was ice cold against my hot fur. I sighed contently and remained practically hugging the cool metal before composing myself and searching the base.

Admittedly, I could get lost in here.

The base was massive on the inside, like an illusion of size, due to the outside being tower like and thin it looked like it was small inside but gosh, how wrong I was.

There were many hallways and doors that led to various rooms with various things inside them. I decided to go straight down the middle and explore. I had never delved deep inside this base before so it was a new experience for me.

Then I can finally put my mind at rest and take a break from helping others for a bit.

Some doors were locked with passwords so I didn't delve into them for the simple reason that I didn't know the passwords.

However a door opened ajar caught my attention, I shuffled towards the door and peeked inside with my amber eyes scanning the room.

Why would this room be open?

Opening the door fully, my eyes immediately locked onto a mobian in the center collapsed and looking quite dead. Blood seeped out from an injury to their head and their chest and collected on the floor in a small puddle.

I gasped and covered my mouth.

Infinite.

His mask was across the other side of the room, but his ruby was no where to be found.
