Chapter Twenty-Four: Exposed

RESISTANCE HQ:

"Shadow, why did you attack Gadget!?" Sonic shouted, furious over Shadow's actions, he tapped his foot in agitation.

"Like I said before, he was in my way, hedgehog!" Shadow snapped back.

"In your way of what, exactly?" Silver spoke up and questioned.

Shadow growled, "Infinite is with him, in his apartment."

Gasps were heard in the small room.

"Infinite?" Knuckles mumbled.

"I thought he was dead" Amy sighed.

"He has him there, he was protecting him" Shadow explained gruffly, folding his arms. "Trying to keep me from attacking him."

"But why..." Sonic frowned.

"Isn't it obvious?" Shadow grunted, "That wolf has a thing for him, when he was in here inspecting that ruby I seen a claim mark on his neck, it is clear that they are in a relationship"

"But Shadow, that's none of our business, if he is in a relationship with Infinite then we shouldn't interfere, but it is still a bit of a shock that he kept him hidden from us" Sonic sighed and rubbed his temples. "Not to mention, now that we know he's alive, we have some interrogating to do to make sure he really has changed"

Shadow rolled his eyes, "He's still protecting that pesky jackal."

"Shadow, leave them alone" Silver frowned. "It seems that Gadget is the only one super close to Infinite and is the only one to possibly keep him calm, what if we bring them both here?" he suggested.

Sonic hummed, "That could work..."

"Infinite may not be as willing to go, though" Knuckles interjected.

"And the interrogation is one on one" Shadow added. "I don't think he'd be willing to be separated from that wolf"

"I'll go and talk with them" Sonic replied, "Then I'll come back and we can discuss what's going to happen" he sped through the exit and to the block of apartments in less than two seconds.

POV: Zero

Ding!

"Huh? Who could be calling?" Gadget raised a brow, I shrugged and watched the door, I didn't plan on hiding anymore considering Shadow probably told the Resistance already.

Gadget got up and walked to the door, answering it. A familiar voice broke the silence.

Oh no.

"Hey, Gadget! Sorry for the sudden arrival" Sonic rubbed the back of his head. "We need to talk, and you don't need to hide anyone from me" he smiled reassuringly.

"Oh, I see" Gadget nodded and let Sonic in, he walked with Gadget into the living room where I was.

"Woah! Uh, hi...Infinite" Sonic smiled sheepishly and sat down facing me and Gadget.

"Uhm...hi?" I replied but pressed myself closer to Gadget for support. Gadget wrapped an arm around me and smiled.

"I assume you're here to question why I saved Infinite?" Gadget shakily sighed, I could sense his nervousness and wrapped an arm around him like he done to me.

"Yeah, Shadow kind of revealed it all..." Sonic twiddled his thumbs.

I tensed up but calmed myself.

"Uhm..how are you though? I heard Shadow done some damage" Sonic asked.

"I'm fine, he didn't hit anything vital" Gadget smiled.

"That's good" Sonic sighed in relief. "So, Infinite?" he looked at me, I could also sense his nervousness.

Heh...amusing.

I guess I really did leave a mental scar on him.

"I prefer to be called Zero" I responded, "I am no longer Infinite"

Sonic nodded, "Right, Zero" he tilted his head, "Can...either of you tell me what sparked between you to this relationship?"

This time me and Gadget tensed.

"How do you know of our relationship?" I narrowed my eyes.

Sonic gulped, "Shadow seen your claim mark, Gadget" he turned to him. "He immediately assumed of a relationship, and when he saw you both his assumptions were correct"

"Oh..." Gadget gulped. "I guess I wasn't really good at hiding it" he chuckled.

"So...is it true?" Sonic asked.

We both nodded, "Yes, it is"

"Right" Sonic nodded, taking in the information. "Can you tell me what exactly happened when you met Zero, Gadget?"

Gadget nodded and proceeded to tell Sonic of how we met. He left out my mental health issues and anything that was too private to reveal. When he was finished explaining he sat back and sighed.

"Wow, that is some journey" Sonic sighed too. "Well, I must head back, I'll be in touch soon!" he darted out of the door in a blue flash.

Gadget stood up to lock the door before coming back and snuggling into my arms again. I nuzzled his head and stroked his back, "That was...something" I chuckled.

"Yeah, it was a bit odd" Gadget laughed. "I think it has something to do with a future interrogation, though" he explained. "They might plan an interrogation for you"

"Oh great..." I rolled my eyes. "That's just what I need"

"I'll be there with you, it'll be alright" Gadget kissed my cheek.

"Dinner?" Gadget smiled and stood up.

"Dinner."
