Chapter Twenty-one: Trying to Stay Positive

POV: Zero

Oh, Chaos, oh Chaos, oh Chaos...

I stayed by Gadget's side until the paramedics came in. When they did, they looked over Gadget and asked me a few questions about what happened, I decided to tell the truth about Shadow stabbing him.

They told me to rush to the ambulance with them so they could treat Gadget's as soon as possible - he was loosing so much blood.

Once inside the ambulance, I held Gadget's hand as we were taken to the hospital, he looked pale and tired, one of the paramedics had Gadget on a bed so they could easily transport him to the emergency room.

When we arrived at the hospital they rushed Gadget into the emergency room and I was told to wait in the waiting room, I gave them my name and waited.

Thankfully, I was the only one in the waiting room.

However that didn't give me any ease.

I had a long term habit of fidgeting, especially in serious situations like this, and knowing how long Gadget is going to be in the emergency room, I'll be waiting a while.

I glanced at the clock; 7PM.

I picked at my gloves, keeping my feet firmly on the ground to hide my Infinity logo on the sole of the boots, knowing that if anyone saw that logo they'd immediately recognise me.

I probably need to get newer gear to conceal my identity more.

I'm surprised no one batted an eye at my gear.

But hey, I'm not complaining.

Another hour passed.

I became restless in my seat, mainly because the seats weren't the most comfortable to sit in for hours on end. My arm grew itchy, as if trying to drag me back to who I once was, a cutting coward. I bit my lip and refused to soothe my itch,

No.

Gadget needs me.

"Mister Zero?"

My ears perked at the sound of a voice, I turned to the nurse and stood up.

"Come with me" she walked into a room just like mine.

There he was, laying in bed with an IV in his arm dripping blood back into his system. There was a bandage around his waist to stem the bleeding from the stab wound. I sat beside the bed and sighed.

"We managed to stitch the wound up, but he'll be unconscious for a day or two to recover from the loss of blood" the nurse explained. "None of his vital organs were hit, so he'll be okay"

"Thank you" I nodded at the nurse and she left, closing the door behind her.

"Oh, Gadget..." I looked at him, "This is my fault..."

"I shouldn't have let you stand up for me, it's my blood Shadow wants, not yours..." I frowned. "I promise to get revenge"

"I-I want to get revenge...but I don't know how..."

"I know you'll try to stop me, but I'm doing this for you"

"I'm staying strong, for you"

"I'm so sorry, Gadget..."

A few tears dripped down my cheeks, I wiped them away and shakily sighed.

You've got to stay strong.

A/N : Down the rabbit hole we go! Will Zero manage to stay strong? Or will he resort to his unhealthy actions to satisfy his itches? Most importantly, with Gadget unconscious, what will the Resistance do when he fails to turn up to a mission?
