My heart was still racing out of my chest,

He...he loves me...

He loves me!

Oh chaos!

I bit my tongue to keep myself from outwardly grinning and catching Zero's attention, I don't know why but it made me super happy that Zero returned the feelings.

Zero kissed my cheek before sitting up, "Brunch?" he chuckled.

I snapped out of my thoughts and nodded, "Yes, I'm starving" I got out of bed and followed my new boyfriend to the kitchen, where we helped eachother in making a filling brunch.

That's a term I need to get used to...

The almighty Infinite, a worldwide criminal..

Is my boyfriend.

After eating brunch I got a knock on the door. I raised a brow but panicked internally, Zero seen my panic and wrapped his hand around mine.

"I'll go hide in the bedroom, you answer the door" he flashed a comforting smile before creeping off silently and into the bedroom. The knock at the door came again and I sighed, I went to the door and opened it, "Yes?" I asked.

"Hey, rookie!" It was Knuckles.

Ah, shit.

"Uh...how did you get my address?" I asked suspiciously and stood in the doorway, stalling as much as possible so Zero could find a good place to hide.

"We seen the new block of apartments open and decided to see where you were, to my luck you were here" Knuckles explained. "Can I come in?" he asked.

I gulped softly but let him in, "Sure" I guided him to the living room and sat down. "What do you want?" I looked at him curiously.

"Sonic has returned from his mission and he reported that there was a stray ruby in one of Eggman's base's" he explained. "We have it in the old Resistance base, it's smaller than Infinite's ruby but I believe it can still possess a lot of power"

"Didn't Infinite destroy them all?" I asked, putting the pieces together in my head.

"We thought he did, but apparently both Eggman and Infinite didn't factor in the one we found" Knuckles sighed. "Rookie, this could be dangerous, with Infinite missing for so long and a ruby still out there, we could have another war..."

I frowned, "I see..."

"Which is why I come to you" Knuckles spoke up, "You've seen Infinite's ruby up close so we need you to come down and see if it's activated and potentially dangerous" he explained. "Tails wants to do some experiments on it but we need someone who has experienced the ruby to determine if it's safe or not"

"When do you want me to come over?" I questioned.

"Anytime within today or tomorrow, we need to know pronto so we can decide on whether to destroy it or keep it for experimentation" Knuckles replied. "Infinite is still out there, so the sooner we know about this ruby the better"

"I'll try and make it to the base within a few hours" I sighed. "Thanks for telling me, commander" I flashed a smile and walked him out of my apartment.

"No problem, we'll be waiting at the old base for you" Knuckles smiled back before leaving the building.

When the door closed and locked I sighed heavily, I slumped against the door and rubbed my head, holding my knees close to my chest. I heard shuffling and the click of a door before I seen Zero walk to me. He sat beside me and rubbed my shoulder.
