POV: Gadget

Oh no, oh no, oh no!

Zero collapsed on the ground, I rushed to check on him. He was out cold. I pressed my finger to his neck and checked for a pulse.

My breathing stopped.

There was no pulse...

...

No. He's not dying now.

I growled and started CPR. I began doing chest compressions, it was hard due to the ruby merging with his skin but I managed.

Thirty compressions. Two breaths.

"Come on, Zero...breathe" I muttered and kept going.

Thirty compressions. Two breaths.

Please...

Sweat dripped down my forehead as I continuously checked for any sign of life.

Nothing.

"Gade-" Tails quickly stopped Sonic from saying anything that would interfere.

There was nothing to say.

Tears welled up in my eyes and dripped down my cheeks. The room was silent, deathly silent.

"No." I pushed on, resuming the CPR process. "I'm not loosing him. "

"Gadget..." Sonic sighed, "You're exhausted, you need to rest"

I shook my head, "His life is fading! I'm not going to sit here." I growled while doing the chest compressions.

Then the unthinkable happened.

I jumped from hearing spluttering below me and immediately rubbed Zero's back as he coughed up blood. Tears continued to stream down my face, only they were of joy now.

Zero heaved heavily, before returning to reality and clutching onto me like I was about to fade away. We both cried heavily into eachother's shoulders, the near death experience still hanging above us.

"It's okay, it's okay, I'm here now" I shakily sighed into his neck.

Zero eventually calmed down to soft sobs, "Y-you saved me..."

"Of course, I'd do anything for you!" I looked him in the eye and smiled, my wet cheeks and bloodshot eyes shimmered in the bright light of the room. "I love you, after all"

"I love you too, wolfy" Zero smiled back, still slightly breathless after being practically pulled from death's harsh clutch.

"Stupid jackal, I could have lost you today!" I huffed in annoyance - a playful annoyance, with a smirk hidden behind the façade.

"I'm sorry, me and my stupid ideas" he frowned, but smiled after. "But hey, at least we solved the ruby problem"

I glanced down at the shining jewel in his chest, there was still some blood around the ruby and dripping down his chest but it didn't seem to be bothering him.

"Does it hurt?" I asked, placing my hand over the ruby very gently.

"No, not now thankfully" he sighed and rubbed my shoulder.

"How are you feeling?" I looked into his eyes and slowly stood up. Zero huffed, "Tired...carry me"

"What?" I cocked a brow in utter confusion.

"Carry me" Zero held out his arms. "I'm too tired to move" he pouted.

"You're acting like a baby" I grunted but chuckled and obliged, picking him up bridal style - admittedly he was taller than me so he was heavier and made it hard to even walk.

"Jeez, you're...heavy"

"Hey!! I'm tall, that's all"

I struggled to the door and left, leaving a bunch of confused mobians in the room. I lumbered to our room and quite literally kicked the door open because I couldn't use my hands. I placed Zero down on the bed and fell next to him in exhaustion.

Zero wrapped his arms around me and held me close, I snuggled into his short fur and sighed.

"Don't ever think of leaving me again, jackal." I huffed into his dark fur.

"Trust me, here is where I'm staying" Zero stroked my small tuffs of hair and smiled, closing his eyes.

In a few minutes we had both drifted off to sleep.
