POV: Gadget

I watched Shadow just mere metres away from Zero, I had a terrible gut feeling about this; they say 'trust your gut feeling' and I'm seriously thinking of trusting it.

What if Zero gets hurt?

What if I'm going to be murdered alongside Zero?

Will I be kicked out of the Resistance for this?

A thousand thoughts clouded my head, I focused on Shadow though. Shadow had his eyes narrowed and brows furrowed as he searched for the scent.

I caught a glimpse at Zero's tail peeking out and cursed to myself, my heart pounded out of my chest in fear.

Within a second the wardrobe was pulled away and there he was, face to face with Shadow.

"Found you." Shadow growled.

"Shadow, wait!" I intervened and stood between them, holding my hands out. "Don't kill him"

A golden glow emitted from Shadows hand and a magical spear appeared into reality. "Don't tell me what to do. Now move, or I'll impale you both." Shadow threatened.

"Gadget" I heard Zero speak and turned to him. "This is between me and him, move" he sighed.

"You two are not going to trash my apartment." I retaliated and turned to the dark hedgehog. "Zero is staying here, get out Shadow."

"Why are you protecting him?" Shadow lowered his spear slightly.

"Everyone deserves a second chance" I explained. "Including him, now leave us alone"

"You think I'd willingly leave here?" Shadow scoffed. "I should have killed you when I got the chance" he snarled at Zero.

"Enough! You'd think I'd let you kill him? No, I'm as much part of this as he is" I stood my ground. "And what of the Resistance? What would they think about you killing off the last of the jackals?" I bared my teeth.

"And what would the others think about you hiding a worldwide criminal?" Shadow grunted. "Protecting him, delaying his death just a little bit more"

"I'm not going to stand by and let you kill him, he's the last of his kind for Chaos's sake!" I shouted, starting to loose my temper. I felt a hand on my shoulder and calmed a bit, Zero rubbed my shoulder gently.

"Get out." I grumbled, having enough of Shadow's threats.

Shadow growled but teleported away, a bright flash indicated his departure.

"You shouldn't have done that" Zero mumbled. "He could have killed you"

"I couldn't let him kill you" I turned to him and cupped his cheek, letting my guard down.

Oh, what a mistake that was.

There was another flash in the room before I felt a sharp object penetrate my side. I gasped and gripped onto Zero's arms, blood dripped down my side.

"Don't interfere with my business again, wolf." Shadow pulled the spear out and finally teleported away for good.

Zero gasped and picked me up, "Hold on, hold on!" he panicked. I gestured to my phone, "Ambulance..." I whispered, feeling breathless and weak. Zero nodded, putting me on the bed and grabbing the phone, he fiddled with it for a second before calling an ambulance and giving them the apartment number.

I struggled to remain conscious, "Z...Zero..." I whimpered.

"I'm here, I'm here" Zero grabbed a shirt and pressed on the wound to stem the bleeding until the ambulance came. "Don't close those eyes, Gadget" he cupped my cheek, "Look at me"

"Th... they'll know...you" I choked out.

"I'll put on the hoodie when they come, don't worry" Zero smiled, we both heard the sirens of the ambulance in the distance. "Hold this to the wound" he gently grabbed my hand and placed it over the blood soaked shirt. Zero rushed to grab the purple hoodie and slipped it on, he then unlocked the door so the medics can come in.

I felt myself drifting off but forced myself to remain awake.

No.

I'm not...

I'm...not...

Drifting...off...
