My Only Weakness [INFIDGET]

Chapter Seventeen: The Ruby

POV: Gadget

I managed to hide the claim mark Zero gave me, when I pushed the large doors open I was met with the whole gang looking at me. I silently gulped and rubbed my mark to hide it, but my eyes were on the ruby held on a stand in the middle of the room.

The ruby was brightly glowing and pulsating.

I walked up to it, Sonic was the first to speak. "Hey, can you tell us what this means?" he asked. I nodded at him and inspected the ruby, but not touching it.

I moved my hand to the ruby, it reacted and sent me flying backwards in a pulse blast. I yelped and got back up, "Well, it certainly has a defense mechanism" I brushed myself off.

I could see Tails writing down information on a notepad.

"It's active" I added and walked to it again. "I think it senses our presence and that's why it's so defensive, it's protecting itself"

A few hums of acknowledgment filled the room.

"Do you think we can surpass the defense system?" Sonic asks.

"I don't know..." I sighed. "If it keeps pushing me back when I try to touch it then I don't think so, it's definitely conscious"

"Who found it?" I asked and looked around.

"I did" Sonic raised his hand.

"How did you get it here? Surely you had to touch it to bring it here" I raised a brow.

"It wasn't active when I touched it, it was just a dull rock" Sonic shrugged.

"Then maybe it calms at your touch, since you were the one to pick it up" I explained.

Sonic tilted his head, "Uh... I'll try" he approached the ruby and slowly placed his hand on it.

Surprisingly, the ruby stopped pulsating and didn't throw Sonic back, it sort of...hummed?

Gasps were heard around the room - including my own.

"It...it likes you?" Tails tilted his head while scribbling down more notes.

"Incredible..." I grinned. "So, if it only calms down to Sonic, then...you must be it's host" I turned to the shocked blue blur.

Sonic picked up the ruby and inspected it, "I guess?..."

I didn't realise the stare I got from the dark hedgehog in the room until I looked at everyone for their reactions. I was particularly uneasy when it came to Shadow as he was always quiet and watched everything.

"Well, I guess we have some studying to do, Tails" Sonic chuckled and placed the ruby back on the stand, where it pulsated again. "Thanks for your observations, Rookie" Knuckles spoke up and smiled, "We'll call you if anything else happens" he dismissed me.

I nodded and took my leave, avoiding Shadow's death glare as I left through the door.

A/N : Ayyyyy surprise chapter! I wasn't going to publish one today but I had enough time to squeeze in some more plot :)

It's another short chapter - I know, but filled with juicy plot details ;)

The next one will be far longer and more...lemony ;3
