Chapter Three: Tense

POV: Gadget

More time had passed, and Infinite still hasn't woke up yet. It was now late in the afternoon, and I was becoming sleepy with the constant beat of Infinte's heart monitor and the lack of food.

Speaking of food, I just remembered I had taken a food bar with me. I pulled it out of one of the pouches in my chest piece and unwrapped it, I broke off small chunks and ate them in silence. However, I decided to keep a bit left over for Infinite because he might be hungry when he wakes up.

I yawned softly and rested against the small chair, I flicked my tail around my lap and tried to get comfortable.

As comfortable as I can be on a plastic chair...

I decided to close my eyes and take a small nap, I was sure Infinite wasn't going to wake up soon anyway, it just means I can rest while he's resting.

All I heard was the soft beeping of the monitor as I drifted off to sleep...

POV: Infinite

Wh...where am I?...

What's that...sound?...

I cracked open my eyes, the first thing I saw was a white ceiling, but glancing down to my left I saw a small bandage around my elbow, there was a small dot of blood in the centre of the bandage.

Am I...in hospital?...

Looking down at my chest, I saw more bandages around where my ruby used to be, and there were wires strapped to my chest and wrists with these sticky stickers...

A faint beeping made me turn to my right, I saw a heart monitor with my heart rate displayed on it.

Huh...

But what startled me the most was seeing a red furred mobian sleeping on a chair beside me on my right. He looked familiar...

The Resistance's rookie?

What's he doing here...?

I need to get out of here.

Sitting up properly, I placed my paw on my head and noticed more bandages covering my forehead.

What the hell...

Taking a deep breath, I glanced at the wires over my body and began to take them off one by one. The monitor was going crazy now and I knew it would only be a matter of time before nurses come in.

"Mmm...?"

Shit.

Unfortunately the rookie was waking up due to the monitor going haywire.

I need to move stat.

Once all the wires were off I got out of the bed, but was quickly tackled back down onto said bed by that damn wolf.

POV: Gadget

Holy shit that was close.

I panted softly from my sudden movement before reaching over and pressing the red button beside the bed.

"Get. Off. Me." I heard a deep growl from below me.

"Not until the nurse comes" I replied, holding down his wrists and legs with my own.

Infinite struggled under my tight grasp for a few seconds before the door opened and the same nurse I met a few hours ago rushed in to help.

"Let go of me!" Infinite barked.

I got off the bed as the nurse came over but held a tight grip over one of Infinite's wrists to keep him from fully moving as the nurse replaced the wires and fixed the heart monitor.

"You're not well, Infinite" The nurse narrowed her eyes. "So it's best if you cooperate with us for the meantime"

"No!" The jackal snarled. "I don't need your help!"

"Infinite, calm down" I spoke up, albeit still terrified because he could rip my face off in seconds, but the nurse was present so it helped ease my fear.

"I'll kill you all!" Infinite threatened harshly.

The nurse sighed, "Then you leave me no choice, hold him down" she looked at me before walking out of the room to get something.

I nodded before climbing on the bed to pin him down, we both stared at eachother with narrowed eyes for a minute until the nurse came back with a needle filled with some type of liquid. Infinite tried struggling again but was too late to escape as the needle was injected into his arm, he stopped struggling almost immediately before drifting off to sleep.

"That anesthetic will knock him out for a few hours" The nurse explained while taking the needle out. 

I got off the sleeping jackal and returned to my chair, "Hopefully he'll be more cooperative when he wakes up..." I grumbled.

"Well, he will be drowsy when he wakes up so that would prevent him from making drastic movements" She explained while checking over the chest and head bandages.

"I see" I hummed. "Thank you" I flashed a warm smile as the nurse as she left. She returned the smile before bidding me goodnight and closing the door.

I sighed heavily and curled up again in the chair, "What am I gonna do with you?..." I looked at Infinite.

I managed to fall asleep again for a few hours. Now, it was just approaching midnight and I was fully awake.

Great...

My sleep schedule is off the roof...

I was looking out of the large window overlooking the city, it was quite a magnificent view. City lights and glittering stars were glowing in the blanket of darkness, lighting up the sky in beautiful colours of orange, yellow and white. Of course, the view wouldn't be complete without the twinkling of the galaxy beyond the stars, dark shades of purple and blue mixed within the city lights brought a sense of calmness to the world.

I brought my attention to the rise in beeps from the heart monitor, before seeing Infinite rise up clutching his head, I assume feeling drowsy from the anesthetic.

I tensed up slightly at what he would do, but he just sat there holding his head while looking down.

"Wh...what happened?..." His deep voice asked.

I swallowed my fear before speaking up, "You got knocked out"

"What for?..." He asked. "All I remember is waking up in here before it all went black..."

So he doesn't remember his outburst?...

Hmm...

"You don't remember your outburst?" I asked while sitting down slowly on the chair and giving him my full attention.

"My...what?" He groaned.

I exhaled softly before explaining what happened. "You woke up and tried to leave, I had to pin you down and you kept shouting at me and the nurse" I glanced at the floor. "Until the nurse injected you with anesthetic to knock you out"

It was silent for a few minutes after my explanation, I hoped he wouldn't strangle me and have another, uh, "episode"?

So he might have small episodes of anger and when he's knocked out he doesn't remember anything of that happening?

Strange...

Infinite sighed heavily before resting on the bed again with his head on the plush pillow, "I don't know anymore..."

My ears perked when he spoke up.

"I..don't know who I am anymore..."
