Reader's POV
Five had found a supermarket that wasn't completely destroyed while I found a building that was stable enough for us to sleep in for the night.
"And... there we go." Five nodded in aprovement at the fire he had managed to start. "Toss me a water bottle."
I grabbed one from a pile and threw it to him weakly. He gingerly poured the water into a pot he'd rescued earlier and held it over the fire.
"This might take a while, so just hand in there. Snack on something from the pile if you want."
I mumbled a soft 'thank you' and turned my gaze to the fire. The glow it emitted provided a little bit of comfort. My legs were incredibly sore and I was feeling weaker by the minute. I desperately wanted to be at home with my family, but after today, I doubted they wanted me back.
I sniffled and wiped my eyes angrily with my sleeve. I was not about to cry over those scumbags. They didn't deserve my tears. Not my Dad. Not my brother. No one.
Five observed me silently before sighing, "You alright, (Y/n)?"
I looked up at him with a blanket expression as my eyes filled to the brim with tears.
"DAMNIT." I yelled angrily, repeatedly wiping at my eyes.
Five quickly searched for something to hold the pot up before scrambling to (Y/n)'s side.
"This has got to be the worst day of my life." I sobbed.
Five awkwardly placed a hand on my back and rubbed it in an attempt to seem comforting.
"I'm sorry, (Y/n)," He began "Its my fault we're stuck here..."
(Y/n) laughed bitterly, "That actually might've been the best thing to happen today."
Five looked at her in confusion.
"Then what..?"
(Y/n) leaned back and sighed.
"Three days ago my brother tried to kill me by locking me in one of those science-y tanks for creatures, but I survived. The whole time I was in there not one person came looking for me."
"Holy shit." Five commented.
"So maybe it was fate I ran into you when I did. There's no way I could've gone home anyway."
I looked at Five at studied his facial features. He seemed unsure of himself
"What about you? What were you doing, time traveling and everything?"
Five looked reluctant to speak and got up to check the water before settling down next to me again.
"Where should I begin..."
He explained basically everything, includeing the events leading up to him running into me.
"I didn't intend to bring you with me, maybe that's why I can't go back. But I promise I won't leave you here when i figure it all out." Five said wearily.
"I just don't understand... what caused this?" I said motioning to the world around us.
"No clue. But I'd like to find a way to go back and prevent it all. Do you remember those bodies we saw today? Well some of them were my siblings." Five voice trembled as he spoke.
I instinctively wrapped my arms around him. He visibly tensed but slowly relaxed after a moment. Guess he still wasn't used to physical affection.
"I'm so sorry, Five."
"Don't be." He stood up abruptly and walked to the now boiling water and poured it into two cups of instant noodles.
