3rd POV
Flashback
"I'm back."
Five's words seemed to echo through the dark, empty hallway of their temporary home. It was late, and the only light it the apartment was emitted from the joint kitchen and dining room. Five slipped off his shoes and coat, hanging it neatly on a hook next to the door before peeping into the kitchen.
(Y/n) stood in front of the stove, wearing her usual apron with her hair pinned up neatly in a bun. She was humming the tune of some long forgotten song. Five vaguely remembered how it went. He'd heard it playing on Ben's radio many years ago.
Five yawned and stretched his arms over his head as he made his way towards his companion. The woman visibly jumped and held a spatula out defensively just inches away from his face.
"Oh sorry," (Y/n) mused, "I didn't hear you come in."
She placed a quick kiss on Five's cheek before resuming her cooking.
"You really didn't have to wait for me. I could've made my own dinner." Five scolded, "You should've been in bed by now."
"Whatever, Hargreeves. Knowing you, you'd have had gone to bed without eating." She huffed in response.
Five smiled softly. She wasn't wrong. He was feeling too exhausted to do any more work, even if it was just cooking. At times like this Five was grateful to have (Y/n) with him. Even though she worked too, she refused to rest until both of them had eaten and washed up.
If their circumstances had been different, this sort of lifestyle would have been charming. It was the closest thing they had to feeling normal. At work, they were constantly reminded of their worries and crimes. At home, however, it was like they were living a calm, domestic life. As if they were a married couple, instead of two trained killers who had nothing left to lose but each other.
"How was work?" Five asked at (Y/n) placed a bowl of food in front of him.
"It was alright. Hazel is making some real progress with his dodging, and Cha-Cha is a naturally talented fighter." She answered, sitting down across from Five. "What about you? How did the assignment go with the Handler?"
Five sighed, "It was nothing special. I'm not sure why the Handler would want some random couple killed."
"I'm sure she had her reasons." (Y/n) shrugged.
After Five had finished eating, he helped (Y/n) clean up the kitchen, and the two of them sleepily made their way to the bedroom. To someone unfamiliar with their situation, the two living together without being married or engaged might've seen improper. Five didn't care about this. He told (Y/n) that living together was more efficient and made life easier for them. It was safer.
As true as this was, Five knew that wasn't his true motive. He just couldn't bare to live apart from her. Coming home each night and being reassured that she was still there was enough to silence his worrying. Even if he did see her for majority of the day.
The two of them finished getting ready for bed and shut off the main light, leaving only the small lamp sitting on (Y/n)'s bedside drawer on.
Five worked on his equation silently while (Y/n) read a book, once again humming to herself. Five turned for a moment and caught a glimpse of what the woman beside him was reading.
Pride and Prejudice
Five knew immediately what was going through her head. (Y/n) did this quite often. When she missed a certain Hargreeves, she'd do things that reminded her of them. Such as if she missed Vanya, she'd let violin music play from another room or if she missed Klaus, Five would come home to a fresh plate of cookies sitting on the counter.
