AN: I'll be making some slight references to the comics, but nothing that spoils anything.
Reader's POV
"Let's split up."
"Wow. Good thinking." Diego replied sarcastically as he grabbed ahold of my hand.
He and I headed towards the left of the first floor while Luther went right.
"Ten bucks says we won't even find him here." I grumbled.
Diego patted my shoulder, "Y'know, for his wife you seem very uneager to find Five."
I huffed in amusement, "Well my husband is kind of an asshole, if you haven't noticed."
"Must've sucked being stuck with him for so long," Diego mused as we continued walking, "but I guess you don't have to stay with him now. You can leave his sorry ass."
I chuckled and stopped walking, "No need. We were never actually together in the first place."
Diego paused and turned to me, confused. "You mean- but Klaus said... of course." He shook his head and laughed to himself, "Damn. Sorry (Y/n)."
"Yeah, no- it's fine." I smiled wistfully, "Five and I... it was all just temporary stuff to keep us going, y'know? Wasn't real."
"Wasn't real my ass." Diego scoffed and crossed his arms, "The bastard had 45 years to sort his shit out and still messed it all up, huh."
"You've got it all wrong. Five never had feelings for me in the first place."
"But you have feelings for him, yeah?" Diego raised an eyebrow expectantly.
I stared and him and opened my mouth to reply, but couldn't muster anything to say. I looked down at my feet in shame.
"I'll never understand you," Diego laughed bitterly, "Why him? Because there was no one else? Is that it?"
"It doesn't matter now, Diego." I snapped, "Let's just hurry up and find him so we can go home. If you don't actually need my help here I'm gonna go look for Klaus." I sighed angrily and turned to leave, but Diego caught the hem of my jacket and pulled me back.
"Look, I didn't mean to offend you or anything. I'm sorry. It's been years since I've been able to have a real conversation with you, so maybe talking about your failing fake relationship wasn't the best choice."
I punched Diego in the arm with a playful frown. "All is forgiven. For now, at least."
"Then c'mon, Zero, let's find Five."

3rd POV
"The day is saved yet again, by the impeccable Umbrella Academy!" The news reporter on the TV screen cheered. "Here comes Number One and Three, Spaceboy and The Rumor, followed by, Number 4, Séance and-"
The TV suddenly shut off. Allison and Klaus, who had been sitting on the floor watching it, angrily turned around to see Diego standing with the remote.
