AN: So sorry this is late!!! :(

3rd POV

Five cleared his throat and began to unravel the troublesome timeline of events leading up to their current situation, starting with the offer the Handler had made to him and (Y/n). At the time, it would have seemed foolish to turn it down. It seemed like their only shot at a new life. (Y/n) thought so too, although she had told him something felt off.

Flashback

"Are you saying that we..." Five began hesitantly, "We could actually leave here? Go... go back?"

He was quivering and his grip on his gun loosened. (Y/n) placed a hand on his back and narrowed her eyes at The Handler. Being away from home for so long had definitely taken quite the toll on Five's mental stability.

"In return for five years of service." She said calmly. "Once your contract is done, you can retire to the time and place of your choosing with a pension plan to boot."

"If you can alter time, why not just stop all of this from ever happening?" (Y/n) asked in suspicion.

"That's quite impossible, I'm afraid. You see... all of this," The Handler motioned, "it was supposed to happen."

"That's insane. The end of everything!?" Five retorted.

"Not everything. Just the end of... something."
__________

"They turned us into the perfect instruments for rehabilitation of the time continuum. Or "corrections," as they called them..." Five continued bitterly, "We weren't the only ones. There were others like us. Beings out of time, fractured, extracted from the lives they knew. I don't know how they got there, but I do know that none of them were as good as us."

The slightest bit of pride shined through as Five spoke. Of course, he and (Y/n) never enjoyed their job, but they were damn good at it. At the very least, there was some silver lining.

"They didn't realize it, but we were biding our time, trying to figure out the right equation so we could get back. And another one to fix the mess I made, unknown to (Y/n). If I could just get her back, I knew I could stop the apocalypse. Save the world. So we broke our contracts."

"Wait..." Luther mumbled, "What do you mean that you made a mess, what- what did you do, Five?"

"I didn't intend to take (Y/n) with me that day. She ran into me just as I had space jumped, and I thought that I'd be able to take us back just as easily, so I offered her my hand. And she took it."

"What does that have to do with a mess? What did you mess up exactly?" Luther furrowed his brows together.

"Our family stability and your chances of stopping the apocalypse." Five answered flatly. "Think about it: things went to shit for everyone as soon as I took her away. (Y/n) is the key to fixing everything. Our family, Ben, the apocalypse, everything. I just need to get her there."

"Then what was all of that stuff with the van and the eye-,"

"I need to know who exactly causes the apocalypse. Just in case."

"Just in case?"  Luther repeated, "Five, you're not making any sense."

Five sighed angrily, "Alright, listen up shit for brains, cause I'm getting tired of explaining things: (Y/n) just might make the difference whether the world ends or not, but she can't save us all in this timeline. I have to go back and prevent her from coming with me, and find out who causes the apocalypse just in case things go to shit in the new timeline."
