Chapter 13

~Holly's POV~

When I wake up my eyes need a few seconds to adjust to the light around me. Only after like half a minute I'm able to open them properly.

What I look up to then, I would have never guessed.

Jayden sits by my side, Juli in the background. He's holding my hand, while staring at the wall behind me. It causes my cheeks to immediately flush, while butterflies rush to my stomach, making me dizzy once again.

"Oh my god, Holly, you're awake!", Juli screeches in that moment. I flinch at her loud voice, my head throbs in pain due to my fresh bruises.

Jayden immediately looks down at me and swiftly lets go of my hand. Am I imagining things or is he blushing a bit? Probably out of embarrassment for holding my fat, filthy fingers.

"Uhm... H- Hi guys?", I utter unsure of the whole situation. "Where am I?"

"You're in the nurse's room. You fell unconscious during PE and Jayden brought you here", Juli explains obviously worried about me. "Girl, Mrs. Mitchel said you have bruises everywhere and that they're not only from today's fall. And she said that you might be malnutritioned too! What's going on?"

"Uhm...", I fall silent again. Everything is just to much right now, what shall I tell them?! Panic manifests itself in my chest, causing me to breath faster. What shall I say? What shall I say?

"Hey, easy there, little one", Jayden's deep voice suddenly interrupts my thoughts. "Don't stress yourself to much."

I look up at him, surprised by his caring words, only to swiftly look away again when I see him returning my gaze with one of his own.

"Breathe, Hols, breathe!", he instructs and gently grabs my hand once again. His thumb starts to caress the back of my palm softly, slowly drawing little circles on it. His touch causes sparks to erupt in my stomach, my throat goes dry and I feel more blood rushing to my face. In the background I see Juli watching my reaction with a small smirk, ignoring the whole situation she still ships me with her brother. Little snitch!

Nah, I'm just kidding, I love her.

Slowly calming down again, I lock my gaze on the wall and avoid looking at either one of them.

"I don't want to talk about it", I finally answer their question. "It's nothing serious, you don't have to worry."

Jayden's thumb stops mid-circle and I feel his grip harden around my palm. Juli groans and starts to say something, but gets interrupted by her brother.

"You can't seriously expect us not to worry about you, can you?! For fuck's sake, you went unconscious! I thought I lost you for a moment! Don't you fucking dare say it's nothing now!", he rages over me.

I flinch at his harsh words, automatically expecting him to hit me. He immediately stops in his actions.

"You think I'd hurt you?"

I don't respond, I don't know what to say. He stares at me for a few seconds, his eyes void of any emotion.

"So you think I'm a monster too."

Without saying anything further, he gets up and storms out of the room. My small "No" and "I'm sorry" echoes through the air unheard.

"Huuuh", Juli breathes out. "Well, that was something else, don't you think?"

I don't respond. Tears gather in my eyes and my chest tightens. A silent sob escapes my throat. I can't stop the waterworks starting once again.
