Art was done by me.
Kaito started up at the ceiling. That was all he could do. He couldn't sleep at all. He was still trying to process everything that had happened tonight. He still couldn't believe that he was levitating above the ground after he was pushed. He and his grandfather mutually agreed not to say anything to his grandmother, the last thing that they wanted was to be more frantic than she was tonight. When he and his grandfather got home, his grandmother was about to phone the police. She fussed over both of them, panic stricken. They quickly calmed her down saying that they were attacked by the boys, but were able to get away. Neither of them mentioned the incident.
Kaito should be sleeping, but he can't. He tossed and turned, trying to get into a comfortable position. He wrapped himself up in his blankets so much that they were almost like a cocoon. No matter what he did however, he couldn't bring himself to sleep. Thinking that he might sleep after having something to drink, he got out of bed. He shivered as his defence against the cold was gone instantly. He steeled himself against the cold as he started to walk down the stairs. He went as silently as he could, half expecting his grandparents to be asleep already. He was quite surprised when he noticed that the lights were still on downstairs. He briefly wondered if his grandparents forgot to turn the lights off downstairs. That was until he heard his grandparents talking. He shouldn't listen in, but he can't help himself.
"What happened? I know that there's something that you're not telling me."
"The fight was on the roof of a building and Kaito was pushed off of it."
"W-what? But how-"
"It happened again."
Again?
What was going on?
———————————————————————————
Kaito truly didn't feel like moving at all when he woke up. Since he overheard the conversation his grandparents had the might before, he struggled even more to sleep. "It happened again"? Does that mean that the incident that happened the night before wasn't the first time? How could that be? Kaito doesn't remember anything like happening. As far as he knew, his family never hinted that it happened or spoke to him about it. That was almost too much for Kaito to process. His mind was too busy trying to work things out for him to sleep. He's pretty sure that by time he did fall asleep, Kaito only got a few hours worth of it.
"Kaito! Are you awake, dear?"
Kaito groaned as he heard his grandmother's voice calling up to him from downstairs. He wanted nothing more than to keep on sleeping. He even turned onto his stomach and shoved his head under his pillow to try to block out everything else. That was until there was a quiet knock on his door and it opened.
"Kaito?" His grandmother asked as she crept into the room.
"I'm awake." Kaito groaned tiredly as he pulled his head out from under his pillow. His hair was more disheveled than ever as his head flopped back onto the pillow, eyes firmly closed. His grandmother sat on the bed next to him, running her hand through his hair.
"Are you sick or something?" She asked as she felt his forehead.
"No, just exhausted..." Kaito groaned again, opening his eyes blearily. He slowly sat up, rubbing sleep away from his eyes. "I'm okay. Just let me take a shower and get dressed. I'll be more awake by then." Kaito stretched, ted a little as he felt a pain in his chest. Where he got that hard punch last night. No doubt that there was a big bruise there now. He was lucky that his ribs weren't broken. He really wished that he was more careful but the damage had been done now. He didn't want to think about what his old "friends" had told anyone. If they knew better than they shouldn't have said anything.
