(Random school) = (R/S)

Flashback 3rd pov

It was the beginning of middle school during volleyball tryouts. "My name is Y/n L/n, pleased to meet you," a short girl bowed to the rest of the group. "I'm (X/Bff), please take care of me," another girl introduces herself. The team welcomed them and started practice, they worked on passing first.

"Do you want to be partners?" Y/n ask (X/bff). "Sure, I'm not that good." "It's okay, I'll try to help you if you want. I learning under a high school coach, he's so cool!" "Wow!"

As they passed it was clear that Y/n was a lot more experienced than some of the other beginners even though she was still a little rough around the corners. "Nice, Y/n," the team captain came up to her, "you're pretty good at passing. Do you want to be a Libero?" Y/n shakes her head, "I want to be the ace!" Everyone chuckles at her enthusiasm. (X/bff) clenches her fists, "You're too short to be the ace, you should stick what you do best. It looks like passing is all you're good at."

Y/n shakes her head, "I can do a decent spike." "Really?" Nodding she goes to the setter of team, "Can you set me a ball? A little off the net, high up." The setter is speechless, "Ummm, sure."

Y/n does her approach, jumps, and hits the ball making it land with a load smack. "Woah!" The whole team is in awe, (X/bff) has a grim expression. Then she gets an idea and an evil smirk crosses her face, "Y/n, let's be friends. I really want to get to know you!" The short girl's eyes sparkle, "I would love to! You'll be my first friend!"

Together they became great friends, (X/bff) and Y/n practiced a lot of volleyball. (X/bff) tried copying Y/n, but every time she thought she would surpass her Y/n would prove to be even better. It seemed like the only thing (X/bff) was good at was receiving. Anger filled (X/bff) when roles on the team were assigned, Y/n was the Ace and team captain while (X/bff) was the Libero.

She's a short player. I'm much taller than her, why should she be the Ace? I should be the Ace, short players should just stick to being in the back.

Unable to take it anymore (X/bff) began to poison the team with gossip,

"Y/n's being too bossy isn't she?"

"Look at her, she thinks she's better because she's the ace"

"She acts like we're incompetent"

"She thinks she can boss us around because she's the team captain"

Soon the whole team turned on Y/n, they stopped listening to her. The gossip went through the entire middle school making her disliked even more. "(X/bff), I don't understand why everyone dislikes me," Y/n hugged her knees, "did I do something wrong?" "No, don't worry about it."

Then in the last year of middle school near the end of the year the game happened, the game where everyone left her. She sat in a tree trying to figure out where everything went wrong, under the tree she noticed (X/bff) talking to a couple of girls.

"She was so mean, I tried to be nice to her but she just yelled at me," (X/bff) was crying. "That's terrible!" A girl comforted her. "What a monster!" Another says. "We're going to get you a drink and some food, wait here," the 2 girls left.

Hopping down Y/n confronted (X/bff), "I never yelled at you. Why are you lying?" "*Tsk*, don't you get it?" (x/bff) frowns, "I hate you! I should have been the ace, not you!" Grabbing her by the arm (X/bff) yells more, "All this time I was using you! To get attention! To learn how to play! To make sure you were miserable!"
