I groan when I feel someone pat my shoulder. The night had been the most uncomfortable sleep of my life.
"Get up, Kim Hana," I hear his voice groan. I swat at his hand.
"Go on without me," I murmur dramatically. The worst part? I can't even turn over to not face him because my knee will not allow for it. I feel the bed dip even more as he props himself up on his elbows, leaning right over my face. I close my eyes - that's the only way I can pretend he doesn't exist.
"What're we doing this fine morning?" I can hear the grin in his voice.
"I actually do have something to do today," I murmur.
"You work?" he teases. My eyes fly open and I hit him right on the head.
"I just took a bit of a break. But I have to look over some cases today, nothing much," I say.
"Then who am I supposed to annoy?" he pouts. I let my fingers drift to his hair. It's quiet for a second before I pull down harshly on a few strands of hair.
"You can make us breakfast," I grin as he yelps in pain. He's frowning before it quickly morphs into a smile.
"Okay, then. Have fun washing that wound up on your own," he smiles politely. My jaw drops as I prop myself up. The bastard's already walking out of the room. I want to cry out of frustration.
"Yah! Jeon Jungkook! Come back!" I whine as I hang my leg over the bed painfully. He takes his time strolling back in.
"What was that?" he pretends to squint his eyes.
"Help me," it comes off a growl rather than a plea.
"What was that?" he cranes his neck a little even though his legs work perfectly fine.
"My dearest Jungkook, help me, or I'm kicking you out," I deadpan. He pouts and I sigh.
"I can't move," I mumble pathetically. This softens him up immediately. I don't bother rubbing that in his face because then he'd really leave.

After a quick shower and change of clothes, I'm precariously perched on one of our high chairs as Jungkook serves me breakfast. It's just toast with jam. In the morning light, despite the ache of my wound, I am at peace. I watch Jungkook as he casually bites away at his sandwich and I smile on the inside.

And then everything changed. Not necessarily changed. Everything just went back to the way it was before the lawsuit. Before that drunk night Jungkook and I shared. My wound healed up in the months that followed the fall. Mira returned. Everyone got busy again.
It felt strange the first night Jungkook wasn't in my bed, it really did. I felt homesick even though I was home. Perhaps I had just gotten too used to his presence. But we couldn't keep hiding from the world together forever. He had to go abroad and I did too at times. We did keep in touch, occasionally checking in with each other in between meetings, but it was nothing like the time when we were practically joined at the hip.
I really did miss him.
The press grew quiet, focusing on other celebrity scandals, and for a moment, it felt like I had never met Jungkook. Months passed and even though I didn't text him daily, he was on my mind.
But, maybe, we were always destined to meet.

"Woah. That's a very official email," Mia mocked when she read the invite - she thought an invitation by email is insincere, I thought the hardcopy just got caught up in the mail.
And I was right. Because the letter showed up this morning. I waltzed into Mira's office smugly.
"Here's the very official letter you wanted," I say in the most bored tone I can. She casually catches the envelope between her fingers before opening it.
"The where, when and why - it's all in there," I say confidently. She sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose in exasperation.
"Hana, I don't know. Last time," she doesn't have to finish the sentence. I'm already grimacing.
"I know," I agree quietly. It's silent for a while.
"I could get us bodyguards?" I offer. I'm not kidding. She looks up in surprise.
"Let's go shopping for some poofy dresses after dinner then," she says, trying her best to be light-hearted.
I retreat to my office and start hiring bodyguards. I really am not kidding.
It takes a few minutes before I've got 5 people for us. I take another sip of my coffee and continue typing.
Then, my phone vibrates. I cast a quick glance at it.
Jeon Jungkook: kartier masquerade?
I casually open our chat. Last text? Two weeks ago. A little guilt slaps me for not talking to him in so long. We had a really tight friendship. Had.
Me: yup you?Jeon Jungkook: yup
I can't do small talk. Throwing caution to the wind, I type away.
Me: wanna match?
Jeon Jungkook: dinner tonight n shopping?
I chew on my bottom lip and switch to Mira's chat.
Me: don't kill me, don't ask, but can jungkook join us for dinner and shopping tonight?
Minnie: w h a t
Me: it's okay if you don't want him to come along
Minnie: actually, this is fine
Me: really?
Minnie: i have to go somewhere tonight too, i can pick up my dress then
I feel awful. Ever since Jungkook came into the picture, Mira had always been busy. Does she just feel uncomfortable with him around?
Me: no, minnie, it's okayMinnie: no no really i swear im good with this. and i really do have something on
Me: what do you have?
Minnie: secret
I pout.
Minnie: i'll tell you very soon
Me: okay, if you say so. you're sure you can't make it tonight?
Minnie: yup. really! go have fun :D
Me: you too, don't get home too late
Minnie: yes mom
I switch back to Jungkook's chat.
Me: i'm in. pick me up from my office at 7
Jeon Jungkook: oooh,,, bossy
Me: mira's taking the car, genius
Jeon Jungkook: iT WAS A JOKE
Me: find better jokes
