"WOW WOW WOW," Bolin exclaimed with excitement as he ran to the window to get a better look of the city, "An entire city made of Metal! Whoo! You should be right at home Beifong." The Chief rolled her eyes and hummed in an annoyed manner. "Something is definitely up with her," I thought to myself, "I should probably get to the bottom of this."
As the airship got closer to landing, the excitement in Bolin's eyes grew. But for Chief, not so much. "Aren't you coming," Asami asked nicely but the Chief snapped, "What's there to see? It's metal. Big Whoop." She looked away from Asami and said, "Just find the airbender and let's get moving." She firmly looked back at us and pointed, "And don't tell anyone I'm here." We all looked at her, puzzled by her response then Korra spoke, "Why not?" The Chief quickly snapped at Korra and said, "I don't need to explain myself to you. Just do as I say." I was taken aback and wanted to talk to her. "I'll just catch up with you soon," I yelled to the group. They all nodded and walked out the airship. "I know that this isn't my fight but what's wrong," I asked her. She didn't say much besides looked away from my eyes. "I get that we're here to protect Korra but there's something else on your mind," I pointed out. "Not something. Someone," Chief Beifong said quietly. "I'll take note of that," I said and saluted her with my index and middle finger, "I'll be off now, let's hope I find my way," I laughed, trying to up the mood. A slight chuckle came from the police woman's lips and I was out.
"So, which way to go," I wondered to myself as I walked around the landing spot. Soon after, another airship arrived. I quickly ran to cover before the metalbenders could safely land the airship. As I hid behind some crates, the wind cause my hair to go all over the place. "Having long hair isn't the best," I thought as the airship was landing and producing the wind. The airship finally stopped and was at a rest. The door opened very dramatically—like the stairs declined from the doorway. "Zhu Li," the very excited man exclaimed from the airship, "these MAGNETS are going to be the next big thing." Next to him was a girl, like his assistant. "That must be Zhu Li," I thought to myself. I began to walk away from my cover and to wherever the entrance was. "Wow," I said very unconfidently. As I looked for an entrance, I felt a finger tap me. I turned around to see the same two people from before but that wasn't a surprise. The man brought his hand to his chin like he was pondering about something. "Say," he simply said. Although his voice wasn't that menacing, something about him felt devious. "Have I seen you around," he asked me. But before I could say anything, he yelled, "Zhu Li, we need to get this woman some proper atttire." Before I could act, the woman already pulled me into her grip and led me to the entrance. The man followed as well.
We walked to an elevator that was moving by metalbenders. "So, what's your name," the guy asked me, "Wait before you tell me let me introduce myself. My name is Varrick and this is my assistant Zhu Li." As I was about to speak, he interrupted me again. "I, Varrick, have done many great things such as create easier ways for shipping and transpor- Zhu Li, write that down." The woman, or Zhu Li, quickly obeyed and pulled out a notepad. She was very fast. Like quick fast. "So who are you anyways," he finally asked me, now giving me a turn to talk. "I'm Ryujin," I simple said and shyly too. "Well you don't seem like a Ryujin. You don't have the attitude of a Ryujin," Varrick argued, "but we'll change that today." He posed very heroically like he was doing justice.
The awkward elevator ride stop and I was now being pulled by the duo. "Here," the man said, "this is my chauffeur," pointing to his assistant. The girl grabbed a set of car keys and invited me to get in. I hesitantly followed her directions and got in. "I shouldn't be doing this," I thought to myself, "but I know how to handle myself. Varrick came in right after and shut the door. "Ryujin," he said my name, "Ryujin," he said again but in a more questioned tone. "What you need is a Zao Fu makeover," he said to me like he was making a sale. "I don't have any money for cloth-," then he shushed me. "Don't worry about it. I got you," he reassured me. As we drove around, we looked at shops through the door but I could hear Varrick talking to himself about each shop, criticizing the clothing and service. "No, not this one. It's too bad," he mumbled, "no. They have horrible customer service." Until he stumbled upon one he liked. "ZHU LI," he exclaimed, "Park the car. Let's go here," he pointed at a very luxurious shop. "This looks very expensive. I'm not sure how I can repay y-," then I was suddenly pulled by the crazed man.
We entered the shop and I was left speechless. The inside was filled with all sorts of golds and jades. The style of the clothes were so sleek and intelligent looking. "I don't think I could pull these off," I said to them, "I should probably not get anything anyways." "Nonsense," Varrick rebutted, "We'll get you fitted and stylized till your liking." He gave me a thumbs up as a pair of ladies took me away into the dressing room. "I wish I went with them," I thought to myself as I regretted my every being.
One woman grabbed her tape measure and began sizing me in places I didn't know they size. "Chest size: 85 cm," the lady said. Not going to lie, this did make me feel bad. "I have small chest," I cried to myself internally. The other lady began throwing clothes into the dressing room. "Waist size: 24," the measuring lady yelled. From the corner of my eye, all I could see is green robes being tossed onto the chair in the room. My face was visibly annoyed as I dealt with this. "The others are probably worried right now," I thought to myself. "Perfect," the woman yelled as she pulled out the outfit. "This green robe, which fits the picture of Zao Fu, accessorized with these gold neck plates, which complement your singular gold eye and differentiate with your blue eye, will surely be the fit," the woman explained. But that all went over my head as she forced the clothing into me. Both women pushed me out to present myself to Varrick and Zhu Li. "I've outdone myself," Varrick pridefully said. Zhu Li nodded and didn't change her expression one bit. Not ever since the arrival. "Don't worry about paying. It's all been done and here are your clothes," Varrick said to me and walked me to the SatoMobile. We all got in and Varrick yelled, "Now to the Beifongs'!" I blinked my eyes frantically, freaked out by the fact he said Beifong. "Wait, Beifong," I asked. "Yes and what's the problem," Varrick asked me but I shook my head and stayed quiet. "Because you're a detective, shouldn't you know who I am," Varrick asked me, "your uniform says it all Ryujin." He smiled smugly and the ride to the Beifongs was silent.
As Zhu Li pulled up to the house, I couldn't hold in my amazement. "This is a nice house," I said, finally breaking the silence. "You won't BELIEVE how much the head of the house looks just like the Chief of Police," Varrick laughed. I couldn't help but chuckle as well. We exited the SatoMobile and made our way inside. "This house is very extravagant," I pointed out, slowly getting comfortable. "Yea I KNOW RIGHT," Varrick exclaimed, "Suyin, the head of the house, was very nice and let me stay here for awhile. Isn't that great?" I nodded and smile. "Oh and we're here," Varrick whispered before he walked through the door. "Sorry we're late everyone," he said as he walked through.
The faces on everyone were either sheer disappointment or anger. "What did they have with this guy," I wondered. Bolin gasped and exclaimed, "Varrick!" I slowly walked in after them and began to walk to an empty seat. "May I sit here," I asked politely and was given a nod from the girl with gray and wavy hair in the green robe. Varrick makes his way to sit towards Asami to get a very defensive version of her. "What are you doing here," she asked him. With all his joy and pride, he responded, "Great question, Asami. I mean, what are any of us doing here? Wow. Food for thought." He pushed the seat back and asked, "Anyhoo, hows our company doing?"
While Varrick and Asami went back and forth, I couldn't help but stare at Mako. That dream I had made me questioned my relationship with him. "Do I know him some how," I thought to myself as I stared. "A gang, Shady Shin," I began to puzzle the pieces together but they weren't fitting. Then Varrick slammed the table.
"And BAM! We're in business together."
I listened to the woman talk about her relations with Varrick. As Varrick rambled and we listened, Chief wasn't having it. "All right! Enough! I'm trying to keep the Avatar safe and you're harboring a criminal and you," she pointed to me, "you should've known better than to join him." My eyes went wide as she pointed me out. The woman next to her tried to calm her down but that didn't work. Instead, Chief stormed off angrily and slammed the door behind her.
"I should probably get he-,"
"No just stay," the woman said, "My name is Suyin. You must be..?"
"I'm Ryujin." I answered simply.
"Well Ryujin, welcome to the safest city in the world, Zao Fu."
