A/N: Hi
The night was still young but I could feel myself falling asleep. But I didn't want to. The feeling in my blood kept replaying and replaying. I was tense the whole time.
I heard a knock at the door and I didn't answer. "It's just Mako," he said. I was so relieved to hear from someone I knew—and just him in general. "Rina, can you get the door," I asked my snow ferret. She chipper as she went to open the door for Mako. As he entered, I turned my back towards him and faced the window. "We all suggested that someone should stay and watch you tonight," Mako said to me. "I don't need it," I quickly refused. "Well can I stay," he asked me, "Bolin snores loudly." I chuckled at his excuse and welcomed him in. "Can you lock the door though," I said in a scared manner. I heard the door lock and his footsteps coming to the other side of the room.
Rina quickly came running to the other side of the bed, occupying the space. "Rina," I whined. She snuggled herself in and didn't care whether of not Mako was here. "No it's okay," he said to me as he sat at the foot of my bed, "I'll be awake the whole time so just get some sleep." "Oh, okay," I simply said and drifted off to sleep.

"Mommy," I said in a creepy and dark alleyway, "Mommy, where are you?" I couldn't remember the last thing that happened to me. I was dressed in my night gown and I had just woken up. It was night but I couldn't really pinpoint what time it was. I kept calling out for her. "Mommy," I yelled down the alleyway, "Mommy please come out!" But there was no response. From behind me, I sense two grown muscular men. Their shadows were slowly growing in front of me as they got closer. "Look at her," one of them said, "you think he'll pay a good price on her? She is the grand-." I ran as fast as I could from the scary men. As I ran, I could hear their running feet getting louder. I knew I couldn't outrun them. I'm just a child and they're adults. I'm small and they're large. It's the end for me.
I turn into a corner just for me to find out it was a dead end. "Get back here you stupid gremlin," one of them said to me. I turned around and slowly backed away. The alleyway felt slippery and wet as I stepped back. As I did, I accidentally stepped into a puddle and slipped. Tears began to form as I crawled my way back into the corner.
I was now up against the wall. There was no return and no escape. Death is my only option.
"Hey," another male said, "How about you grow some morals?" Then out of nowhere, a swish of water scratched the two males. "Hey," one of them exclaimed, "you're gonna regret that!" He got into a stance and a chunk of the ground emerged with the power of his hands. I was now in the middle of a bending battle.
The water bender was using the leftover water from all around the alleyway, freezing it, causing the two males to slip. A fiery breath escaped from the two, melting the whole ice. As they were fighting, I quickly got away from the trio and hid behind a box to watch. The water bender was going all out. His offense was too dangerous. He was out for the kill. He kept using his ice to create slash marks on the other two while the earth bender used the ground to emerge shields. The fire bender was the offense in this case. He kept shooting fire through his fingers like he was holding a handheld weapon. Not like a sword but like a portably canon. Finally, the water bender went in for the kill and from behind the two, he stabbed them through their bodies with the frozen ice.
"You can come out," he said to me. I hesitantly walked from the boxes and to him. "Don't- don't hurt me sir," I plead with my life. He scoffed at my comment and reassured me. "Just think of me like your brother," he said to me, "You can call me Shin."
Those were the first kind words I could ever remember.
-
I shot up from my bed, yelling, "Shin!" Mako was sleeping at the foot of the bed but when I yelled, he was startled causing him to fall. "Sorry Mako," I apologize to him. "Noo...it's okay," he reassured me, "it's just my butt." I chuckled a bit and got up from my bed. "Here, let me help you," I said while I walked to him. I put my hand out for him to grab. He grabbed it but held onto it. "Mako," I said to him, "are you gonna- oh, I need to pull you." I embarrassingly pulled him up and looked away from him."Well...," Mako said, "Don't be embarrassed. It was cu- cool." I couldn't help but feel embarrassed and down about it. It's not like me to care about this but why do I? "I should go get ready, wanna come," Mako invited me. "I'm a girl," I said to him, "I can't get ready with you!" "You can just wash up or something," Mako easily said to me. It's not like him to be this easy going with anyone. Whenever he's at the station, he's always stiff and antisocial. But with me, he seems so at ease. "I guess so," I gave in.
I grabbed my brush and toothbrush and walked to the bathroom with him. "Don't you think we would look suspicious," I asked him. He shook it off so normally like it was the common thing to do. "We've known each other for so long it's fine," he shrugged. "Wait- what," I questioned him, "I literally met you last month or so and now you're acting like we're friends?" Then I remembered something. "Oh wait," I said in disbelief.
We reached the bathroom and entered together. "Are you going to stop lecturing me, mom," Mako teased at me. "I remember," I blurted out, "Mako, you...you were my friend." He turned around to look at me with disbelief. "You remember," he asked me hopefully. "I- only vaguely but I remember you," I responded to him, hoping it would be enough. I focused my eyes on him to show that I was being serious. "Mako, do you remembe-," I was pulled into a big hug from the boy. His hug was filled with love and joy and happiness. There was so much hope in it. And he held it so tight that he didn't want to let go. "Ryujin," he started to sniffle, "You don't know how much I've missed you over the past years." I smiled and didn't fight the hug. I hugged him back which resulted in him hugging harder. "Ma- ko. I can't brea- eathe," I struggle to say. He quickly let go and I catch a huge breath of air. "We should really get to washing up," I said and laughed, "We might look suspicious." He laughed with me and proceeded to brush his teeth as I did the same.
I spat out all the nasty toothpaste in my mouth and began to rinse. "My teeth feel very fresh," I say to myself and I grabbed the brush and brushed my hair. After I finished, I grabbed the blue ribbon and two chunks of my hair out of the way and tied it back. "I'll be outside," Mako said to me. I nodded and quickly finished up to catch up to him. As I exit the room, I see the rest of Team Avatar standing there with their jaws dropped. "Did you-," Bolin asked hesitantly. I could tell he was scared just by his facial expression. "No we didn't," Mako quickly answered, "and it's nothing like that. We just happened to connect somehow." He smiled at me while I smiled at him back. "But trust me," Mako reassured them all, "We didn't do anything nor are we anything."
