Ryujin POV

"So," he said, pouring the tea, "What was not adding up, exactly?"

The tone of his voice sounded so mockingly yet at the same time, he was covering it up with a feign seriousness. He walked away from the table, leaving us five to face his back. Was he trying to hide something?

"Hong Li was clearly lying," he defended, "And we found evidence in his apartment."

There was a short silence in the air. I shot looks at each and every one of them, except Mako. They all look back, having an unsure expression upon them. I shared the same. Mako, on the other hand, looked very determined. His face was calmed yet tense from his drive to catch Ai Wei. Eyebrows furrowed and eyes dead set on the elderly man, Mako knew he had it in the bag.

"But don't you think it's weird how young he is," Mako questioned. His facial expression soften a bit—I wonder why? "How did he ever get mixed up with this group," He followed up, raising his brow as his face tensed up again.

Ai Wei quickly responded—too quickly like it was rehearsed. "Perhaps through a relative. Or maybe he was bribed." His alibi seemed believable enough. The motives make sense but Mako's argument still stands. Hong Li was too young to be mixed up with the Red Lotus. "We will find out those answers in time," Ai Wei said, walking towards the bookshelf, "But if it wasn't him, who do you think it was?"

It was clear to see. Everyone still had an unsure look but just from the looks of it, I knew it was Ai Wei.

"We don't know," Asami responded with low confidence.

"You don't think I have something to do with this, do you," he said, as if he was mocking us. He moved the sand colored vase back to its place. It felt as if he was toying with us with these questions all along. Everyone kept calm while I could feel a burning inside. Why can't they see it was him? All the evidence points to him.

"We're just looking for answers," Korra said.

"And you think you found something, don't you," he asked us. We weren't sure to answer that question or not. His tone was in a way where the question was rhetorical, not made to be answered. There was a slight moment of silence. His back was turned to us and he had our attention. I stood up abruptly, charging up to make my move.

"You have no idea what is coming for you, Avatar."

A wall of metal shoots up from the flooring, creating a wall between us and Ai Wei. I shoot my flame at Ai Wei with Mako but we were to late. The wall was already two/thirds up before we could hit him.

"Fuck," I curse quietly under my breath. From the corner of my eye, I see Mako turn his head to me. Then his attention turns to my flaming hands. I run over to Korra and helped her try to melt the metal as she tries to bend it.

"Come on," Mako exclaimed, "He's getting away!"

I kept trying to do my best and melt the metal for her to bend in the best way possible.

"I'm trying my best here," I quietly say, trying to hide my anger.

"I'm still a little new at this, so back off!" Korra scowled back, making a distasteful expression, "You're doing just fine Ryujin. If you could make your flame a bit hotter it'll be easier to mend." I nodded at her request, "I'll do my best. It seems that this newly founded blue flame is the hottest it can get."

I kept punching and she kept bending until we were able to rip open the metal wall.

"We're almost there. Just one more," she grunted, "And..."

The wall ripped open. With her metal bending, she tore apart an opening and we all walked through. I looked around and noticed he was already gone. The bookshelf door was already slid open and through it was the door. We all rushed down there to open it. When Korra opened the door, a bomb went off.

"Hold on," I heard someone said. I don't know who but they grasped me, hugging my tiny frame and keeping me shelters. Luckily for all of us, Korra used her air-bending to create a shield, protecting us from the bomb's impact.

I looked up to see that it was Mako holding me. "I think I'm okay," I slightly coughed and got out of his hold, "But thank you." There was a slight blush I could feel rushing over my face.

After waiting a bit—to make sure the coast was clear—we began to investigate. We headed inside the room where the bomb was place. Everything was destroyed—like how Ai Wei probably wanted. All of our guards were up, hoping no other surprises come at us. But in the end, no one was there.

"He's gone," Mako said, dropping his form. Smoke filled the room, decreasing my vision a bit. "Look," Korra called out, "He must've escaped through there." I couldn't see what she was talking about but maybe once Korra and Bolin clear it, I would know. Right when they cleared the entrance, the Beifong sisters rushed in.

"What happened?! We heard an explosion."

"Where's Ai Wei?"

With a tinge of anger, Korra responded, "Your trusted advisor was the one who betrayed us." I looked at the sudden reaction Su gave. She didn't look happy. She was shocked, angry, sad. It was a mix of emotions that all happened at once. "He was lying about the guard."

"What," Su said, in disbelief. But she didn't want to accept the fact. "No.."

Korra tried to explain herself to Su. "We confronted him and he bolted through here," she said as she pointed to the hole in the wall.

With her seismic sense, Lin felt the entirety of the perimeter. "He must've collapsed the tunnel behind him," she shared. "And be rigged an explosion to destroy any evidence that could've been here." I began to walk away from the group and examine.

I headed up stairs one more time and into his room, hoping to find something. I dug through his drawers one more and noticed something different, there was a false backing. From under the drawer, there was a hole were you could poke through, lifting the thin wooden plank to reveal what was under. I rushed down to everyone else and notified them.

"Hey, I found something!"
