A/N: Mako POG
MAKO P.O.V.
Ryujin scooted over for me to sit. I walked to the spot and sat down. It felt like when we were just children. She would always invite me to sit down just like this. Right next to any piano she saw in sight.
"There's this song I've been playing recently and it's just been stuck in my head," she told me, "back when I worked at my family's club, I would always play on the piano. I literally hogged it," she laughed. I smiled at her but she didn't seem to notice. That was fine. She never really noticed me anyways. "I've always wondered," she said, looking up to the ceiling, "Did I ever play a song for you?" I was so enamored by her that I didn't even pay attention to her. "Mako," she said as she waved her hand in front of my face, "Earth to Mako." I finally snapped out of it and answered, "Uh, yea." That was a close call. "Actually, you taught me a song," I mentioned to her. Her eyes lit up with interested as I played the first key. "I taught you how to play a song," she asked me. Ryujin didn't seem to believe that she did, but I wonder why.
As I began to play, Ryujin closely watched my fingers press the keys in a rhythmic way. I couldn't help but blush as she did. Her watching made me nervous. I watched every move I made when playing, hoping I don't mess up and embarrass myself. As I played, my hands trembled from nervousness. It kept shaking and shaking as I played forward into the song. "Wow," Ryujin said, while I was still playing, "You're very good at this." I moved my eyes to look at her. She was still looking at my hands. Why can't she just look at me instead?
"That was the wrong note," she said to me. Blood rushes to my cheeks as I rest my hands in place at the last key I played. I didn't even bother to look away. My mouth was open from shock and embarrassment. I even tried my hardest to play it too. "Let's try it together," she said and looked at me. I turn my eyes to her, not turning my head at all. I swallowed the lump in my throat and fixed myself to face her. "Y...yea," I nervously said. She placed her hands onto mines, controlling where I should and shouldn't put my hands. "I...I think I got it," I stuttered. I didn't want her to let go but I was starting to get too flustered. "Okay..." she said and paused, "Maybe I'll play the song for you and you'll join in," she smiled. I nodded at her with my face still visibly red.
She hummed the note that she hit the first note. The sound harmonizing with her voice was like a once in a lifetime chance and every time it happens, it feels so new. Why am I so worked up over this girl? It's not like I don't have any harboring feelings for her. Or do I? "So, Ryujin," I said as gently as I could, "When should I join in?" "Hmmm," she hummed so angelically, "Whenever you're ready." She played away as I watched her hands travels all around the piano keys. I hesitantly place my hand on the piano and the tempo went slower. She must've known. As I joined in, the tempo gradually got faster and faster eventually reaching the normal speed. "You're getting it Mako," she said to me like when we were young. I couldn't stop smiling as I played with her. She brought me so much joy and was really the reason why I smiled so much.
Knock. Knock.
"I thought you were suppose to be asleep," asked a familiar voice. When I turned around, I see Asami, Korra and Bolin lined up in front of the doorway. "Well," she said and stopped playing, "I saw this room open and I saw this piano so I wanted to play it." She chuckled nervously as she scratched behind her head. "You both played very beautifully," Asami complimented. "And you guys also looked very cute while doing so," Korra added. I shot an annoyed glare at her while she stick her tongue out at me in a teasing way. She pointed behind me and I looked to see a flustered Ryujin—hands covering her face and everything. I could tell she was flusters by how red her ears were. They've never been this red before though.
I turned back to see the group waving goodbye to us and Bolin giving me a thumbs up like he was hyping me up. "S...so, should we get s...started," Ryujin asked. I turned my attention to her. She was still pretty red but it seems she's got it out of her system. "Are you okay," I asked her with concern, "You suddenly seem out of it." Ryujin frantically shakes her head and says, "Yea! I'm good." I looked around the room to see the time. "It's almost dinner," I said to her, "Should we get going?" She nods her head slowly, not making any eye contact with me. We both got up and exited the room.
As we walked, the atmosphere was a bit awkward. Right after what Korra said, Ryujin started to become distant and quiet. Damn, Korra. I wanted to say something but I didn't want to hurt her more than I ever did. The walk from here to the dining room felt so long. Ryujin didn't say anything at all. I turned my head to look at her to see that her ears were still red like before.
We reached the dining room and when I opened the door for Ryujin, she stumbled coming in. I quickly catch her by her hand, causing her face to flush a light red. From the corner of my eye, I could see Asami and Bolin conversing. I wonder what they're talking about. "Thank you," Ryujin hesitantly said. She fixed herself and walked to an empty chair. I followed her to the next empty seat since there was no more and the only available one was the one next to Ryujin. I wouldn't argue though.
