We bounded from one rooftop to the next, racing alongside one other towards L.I.D. As we approached it I could see countless duelists in the front. I held out my arm in front of Yuya to signal for him to stop. He nodded. We sat perched on a nearby building, a bit lower to the ground than I would have liked, but oh well, beggars can't be choosers. We were about twenty yards from the door where the duelists were lined up.
"What's with all these students?" Yuya asked.
"I don't know, but we need to get past them to get to Reiji." I responded.
"Look!" Yuya said in a whisper.
He pointed to a few stragglers who seemed to have wandered off on their own. They were headed straight for us, but it didn't seem like they knew we were there. The three of them took a turn into the alley next to us and stopped. Yuya and I watched them carefully.
"Why're we even out here? It's not like they're going to just waltz right up to the door!" The first boy complained.
"If we aren't here they might. So if I were you, I'd be biting my tongue! All of us are on thin ice as it is... Those stupid newbies trashed our reps, now they don't trust us with anything but guard-work! One more slip and we could get kicked out!" the second boy responded.
"Phantom?" Yuya whispherd.
"Shh!" the third boy shushed the other two.
"Did you hear that?" he added.
Yuya covered his mouth with his hands, realizing his mistake. At the same time, I push my index finger to my lips and let my worry show just a tad.
"You alright, Kario?" The first boy asked.
"Don't go crazy on us yet! We still need to pound the new guys into the ground! I hate that stupid dragon of his, it's all I've been able to think about lately! He's the coldest XYZ user I've ever met! The second yelled.
"Don't forget about that Fusion dude. He was so snarky! He didn't even flinch at my 'bounce-point' strategy!" The second yelled.
The third seemed to ignore the noise from before as he re-joined the conversation.
"I didn't face those two, but that Synchro user was an eye-sore... He just made a joke of everything! Like he knew I wouldn't win, and was toying with me!"
Yuya and I exchanged worried glances. An XYZ suelist who's cold, a Fusion user who's snarky, a Synchro duelist who clowns around the whole time? Don't tell me-...
'You don't think... I mean, it would explain why they're not responding to us... Could they be their own people again?' Yuya thought.
I returned my eyes to him a bit shocked.
'I'm sure that's not it. There's no way to even do that!' I thought to him.
We were both silent for a moment. Yuya continued to stare down at the three duelists below us, as though he hadn't been confused enough...
"So what was that Fusion user's name again? I wanna' give him a good beating if I ever get the chance!" The second boy yelled.
Yuya and I held our breath awaiting the answer.
"You'll know him when you see him... He's always gloating about how good he is..."
I let out my breath. Looking over to Yuya I could see he was still intently staring at the boys.
"Yeah, but what's his name!?" my interest returned to the three below.
The boy thought for a moment before answering. Suddenly, he snapped his fingers like a light went off in his mind.
"Yuri. Yuri Venom."
