My mom now worked in the ER as an EMT. She made sure to leave a note in my room saying she'd be gone when I got home but back before dinner. I laid on my bed before my phone started ringing.
"Hey."
"How was your first day?" Joel asked.
"It was nice, and then it was weird, and then it wasn't nice."
"What happened?"
"Well I met Bella and she was really nice, and her friends are nice. I learned about this weird family of couples."
"Family of couples?"
"There's a doctor who adopts teens and all of them are dating each other except one."
"What if they're just really close?"
"I mean, they look like they're all together."
"That's weird."
"Yeah, there's this one guy, Jasper. He's really nice I'm not sure why, but when he looks at me all of my anxiety goes away. I do think he's dating his adoptive sister though."
"Eww that's weird."
"I don't know. I can't tell. He helped me to class and got in trouble. Then the teacher asked me to stay after school to talk and Jasper told me not to go. He wouldn't tell me why, but he stayed after school. I think he was worried about me."
"What did the teacher talk to you about."
I sighed.
"He told me I couldn't wear my gloves in class and wouldn't let me explain. He also told me not to talk during class because I apologized for getting Jasper in trouble for being late."
"Sounds like a hardass."
"He told me I'd get detention for wearing my gloves."
"Tell the principle."
"I don't want to cause trouble. It's my first day back, if I complain I'll be known as the disease ridden girl again."
I scratched my hands not wanting to think about the situation anymore. Joel noticed and changed the subject.
"So this Jasper guy, is he ugly?"
"He's southern and had a thick accent. It's honestly attractive."
"What about this sister? They're dating?"
"I don't know, Jessica, Bella's friend said they were, but I don't really trust her, she's really gossipy."
"Hmm, how was everything else? Good teachers other than hardass? Easy classes?"
"Yeah everything is easy, all the other teachers are nice."
"I'm glad you like it there."
"I'd prefer Texas."
"I know, but neither of us can do anything to change the fact that you don't live here."
"I know, I can't wait to visit."
"I can't wait to see you again."
"Ok, I'm going to do my homework, thank you for being here for me Joel."
"No problem night."
"Night."
I hung up and started my homework.

After my mom got home she looked happy. I think she was with Charlie. I don't like how close they're getting. I walked downstairs and she was taking off her jacket.
