I stayed with the tribe for a couple months, helping Wesley with schoolwork, and hanging out with Luka and Dakota. I couldn't bring myself to go back. I explained to Dakota why I ran away, and he told me I could stay as long as I like. I sat at the counter with Wesley, helping him with his English studies.
"Good try buddy, but you forgot put an apostrophe after the u because it's two words combined. You and are."
He nodded and fixed it.
"I think I get it."
"Do your work and I'll check it over."
He nodded and Dakota smiled to me.
"What do we want for dinner?
"Fish!" Wesley spoke.
"I'm also ok with Fish," Luka said from the couch.
Dakota nodded and I asked if he needed help.
"You wanna scale the fish?"
"You'll have to show me how."
He nodded and showed me and I did it to two more fish. Dakota took them from me and took the bones out of them and cut it up to cook. Wesley told me he was done and I check his sheet.
"Good job! You got all of them right!" I said giving him a high five.
Dakota smiled and told us Dinner was done. He set out three plates and they all sat down. Later that night I sat on the couch in the living room watching the fire in the chimney burn the wood. It wasn't for me, obviously. I didn't need to stay warm, I just liked watching it. Luka walked down the stairs from his room and sat by me.
"You never told me why you ran away," he spoke quietly.
"Oh uhm, It's complicated."
"What about Jasper, you haven't seen him. Did he... did he hurt you?"
I shook my head, "No, he just lied."
Luka grabbed my hand and squeezed it.
"It's ok," he said.
I looked at him and smiled a bit.
"He had the choice to suck the venom out of me, but he didn't. He let me turn."
"What?"
"There's a small window when someone's been bitten where the venom can be sucked out of their bloodstream. He was too scared of sucking all of my blood out and killing me, so he didn't do it."
"I'm so sorry Ophelia," he said pulling me into a hug.
"If he did, I would've stayed human, I could've stayed with my mom, and I wouldn't be dead to everyone I knew."
"But you're here with us now. We'd never lie to you," he said pulling me back a little to look me in the eye.
I looked up to his eyes and he leaned in slightly. Suddenly a knock at the door startled us. Luka walked over to answer it.
"What are you doing here?"
"I need to see Ophelia."
Alice. I got up and walked to the door.
"It's ok."
I stepped outside with her.
"It's Bella, I think she tried to kill herself, I'm going to check on her, come with me, I can't handle lying to her anymore."
"She what?"
"She jumped off a cliff, I didn't see her being pulled out, we have to go check."
I nodded and Luka came out quickly.
"Wait, Ophelia."
I turned to him.
"You're going to leave us? Go back with them after they lied to you?"
"It's complicated, I have to go check on my friend."
"Please."
I looked to him.
"I'm sorry."
I got into Alice's car and she sped off.
"How's Jasper?" I asked nervously.
"I don't know, he left for Texas the day you ran off."
My stomach curled at the thought of him going back to his home. He didn't tell me much about who he was before meeting Alice.
"I'm sure he's ok, we all regret what happened that day. None of us would've been able to control ourselves enough to suck out the venom, and even if we did, you would've died before making it to the hospital. Carlisle made the decision."
"I know, I just wish he wouldn't have lied to me. It hurt, I didn't know who I was anymore. I do now. The tribe has helped me with that a bit."
"Do you forgive him?" She asked looking at me.
I nodded.
"After all of this, I'll take you to him, I know where he might be."
I nodded and looked out the window.

When we arrived at Bella's house, no one was home. Alice parked on the side of the road and we both went in. We got in through the back and I looked around. I went upstairs to Bella's room and looked at everything. She had a dream catcher above her bed. I heard a car outside and assumed it was her.
"She's with a wolf. I don't know how she'll react to you not being dead."
I walked downstairs and Bella hurried into the house.
"Alice!" She grabbed onto Alice like she'd never let go.
I walked into her sight and when she opened her eyes she looked at me.
"Ophelia? You're alive?"
I hugged her tightly and tensed because of her smell. I could see what everyone was talking about.
"You're a vampire?"
I nodded and let go.
"I was turned on the night I died because I would've died if I hadn't been. I'm sorry for lying to you about it. I'm sorry for leaving you alone here."
"How are you alive? I saw you jump off a cliff," Alice said.
"Why would you try to kill yourself you have so much left to live for. What about Charlie?" I asked.
"I wasn't trying to kill myself, I was cliff diving, for fun."
"That's a stupid idea," I said quickly Bella looked at mw seemingly hurt.
"And why do you smell like wet dog?" Alice asked.
"That would be Jacob."
As if on cue he walked into the living room.
"I thought you couldn't protect me here," Bella said.
"I guess I don't care."
"Well we're not going to hurt her," I spoke angrily.
Clearly her new friend wasn't a good influence.
"No just leave her here to rot. Or fake the death of her best friend."
