"Impressive, I've never seen a coven survive an attack of this magnitude in tact," Jane said clearly upset with their survival.
"We were lucky," Carlisle spoke.
"I doubt that," she replied.
"It appears we missed an entertaining fight," Alec spoke smiling to me.
Alec wasn't as bad as Jane. He had a thing towards me, he always respected me. It was nice.
"Yes, it's not often we're rendered unnecessary," Jane said cutting him off.
"If you would've arrived a half hour ago you would've fulfilled your purpose," Edward said clearly unhappy.
"Pity," she spat.
Her eyes wandered over to a girl behind Carlisle and Esme.
"You missed one."
Jasper pulled me with him over to the girl.
"We offered her asylum in exchange for her surrender," Carlisle explained.
"That wasn't yours to offer."
The girl started to panic slightly and Jasper put his arm on her shoulder. I knew he could feel her fear and ease it.
"Why did you come?"
When she didn't answer immediately Jane used her gift and the girl fell to the ground. I knelt down to her.
"Stop," I spoke loudly.
"Who created you?"
"You don't have to do that she'll tell you anything you want to know," Esme spoke looking towards us.
"I know."
"Stop or else," I said standing and glaring into Jane's eyes.
The girl gasped for air no longer screaming and I helped her up.
"I don't know anything, Riley told us our minds weren't safe."
"Her name was Victoria, perhaps you knew her," Edward spoke full of spite.
"Edward, if the Volturi had knowledge of Victoria they would've stopped her. Isn't that right Jane?"
"Of course. Felix, take care of the child, I'd like to go home."
"She didn't know what she was doing! We'll take responsibility for her," Esme interrupted.
"Give her a chance."
"The Volturi don't give second chances, keep that in mind. Caius will be interested to know she's still human," she spoke looking towards Bella.
The girl panicked and looked up at me.
"Take care of that Felix."
Felix walked over and I moved to the other side of Jasper. We backed away and Felix didn't meet my eyes before throwing the girl into the fire. He smiled and when he turned around he looked to me. I looked at the ground and held Jasper's hand in mine. He squeezed it and I knew he was eyeing Felix down. I looked up and Felix walked back to Jane. They turned and ran off. A wave of relief fell over me.
-
We stood back at the Cullens, in Jasper and I's old room.
"What if I revealed that I'm alive. I say I ran off to be with a guy and I realized it was a horrible idea?"
"That may not be the best idea."
"I just think it would be easier than trying to hide that I'm alive."
"Hate to break it to you, but you're technically not alive."
I threw a book at him and he smirked. I jumped up into his arms and he smiled.
"You know what I mean."
He smiled and went to the balcony.
"I love you so much," he said whispering into my ear before he jumped off the balcony towards our house.
"I love you too," I said.
We landed outside our house and I looked to him.
"I'm going to do it, tonight probably."
"You'll need to think of a story, one you won't forget or mess up," he said.
I nodded.
"I'll say a man I met online lured me to Seattle and then kidnapped me."
"What if they ask you who he is?"
"I'll say I think he drugged me and I don't remember what he looks like."
"What kind of drug?"
"Something with memory loss."
"So find a drug that causes severe memory loss and mention the you felt the symptoms from it."
"Roofies won't make you feel anything but tired after a couple days. I'll just say he fed me pills to make me sleep. As for the bugs, I'll say he made them worse, but they're gone now."
He nodded. He went to the bathroom in the cottage and I followed. He handed me a packet of eye contacts.
"They'll make you look normal. Be careful," Jasper spoke stopping me, "If they don't buy it, we're gone for good."
I nodded and went out the door. I looked out into the dark.
"I'm sure she'll call you when I get there, so, I'll see you in a bit."
He nodded and I ran off towards my mom's house. I dirtied my clothes to make it seem like I walked here. The light in the living room was on. I walked up to the door and looked through the glass. I quietly knocked on the door. I heard movement from inside the house and when the door opened my mother looked at me in the eyes.
"Ophelia?"
"Mom."
She quickly pulled me into a hug.
"Where have you been? I've been worried sick, we all thought... we all thought you were dead."
I felt tears on my shoulder I hugged my mom tighter.
"Come inside, you look terrible."
We went inside and my mom looked at me as if I was going to disappear again.
"Get changed, your clothes are still in your room. Then come down and we'll talk."
I nodded and went upstairs. I quickly changed into a big sweater and some leggings. I listened in as I went downstairs and my mother was on the phone.
"She's here, I haven't talked to her about anything yet, but she's alive."
She looked at the wall and stayed silent.
"Yeah, I'll call you back, but if you want to come over. You're welcome."
She hung up and I walked into the kitchen.
"My babygirl, what happened?"
"I'm so sorry mom, In advance, for everything. I wish I would've handled everything better. I ran off with a guy I met online. He met me in Seattle and he drugged me before I even saw his face. I don't remember much about the last year. I wanted out, when I was alone, I got away. I asked someone for the way here and walked."
"Oh hunny," she said hugging me, "I'm just glad you're back home."
"I don't remember what he looked like. I wish I did."
