"We were created to wipe out the Cullen coven," Riley spoke when Jane interrogated him.
I looked to Felix and he pulled me closer to him. They wouldn't stand a chance against the Cullens. I wish there was a way I could warn them. Maybe Alice could see it coming though. She always could. Jane smirked at me then looked back to Riley.
"You have 5 days to do what you were created for," Jane spoke.
I stayed silent and avoided eye contact. I wanted to go back home. We left the house and Jane smiled.
"We'll show up after the battle and see if they're alive or not."
"The Cullen's will survive," I spoke.
"We'll see," Jane retorted.
We booked a motel to stay in for the night with the Volturi's money. Felix and I shared a room, not that Jane couldn't hear us. The moment we got into the room Felix hugged me.
"Are you okay?"
I nodded.
"Being away from Chelsea doesn't help, but I'll be fine. I've got you," I said holding his hand.
He smiled and I could tell there was something he wanted to say. I looked to him.
"What are you thinking?" I asked.
"I'm just worried, without Chelsea you might make a reckless decision. I want you to stay with me, with the Volturi."
I nodded.
"I'm with you Felix, I'm not going to leave."
He smiled and took my hand. He kneeled down and my eyes widened. No. I couldn't marry him.
"Ophelia Flores, will you do me the honor, of being mine eternally."
He opened a box and a shiny ruby ring sat in front of me.
"Felix, I want to be with you, but I- I just can't."
I ran out of the motel leaving him there. I ran out to the forest. I needed to do something. I couldn't go back. I ran towards Forks not knowing anywhere else to go. I sat in a clearing in the woods, not knowing what to do. I couldn't go back. What if he was searching for me? What if he found me in Forks? I didn't think Jane would let him to be honest. She'd make him stay and not abandon the mission. She must've known he would do this. Aro must've given him the ring, it was definitely a blood ruby. Felix would've had to ask for Aro's permission. I stood on the edge of the clearing in the woods near Forks. I heard someone coming towards me and jumped up into the trees. Alice ran into the clearing looking for something.
"I know you're here Ophelia! Please come out."
I jumped down. How did she know? She must've been watching my decisions. She turned and quickly pulled me into a hug.
"What were you thinking? Joining the Volturi? Are you insane?" Alice scolded me.
God I missed her so much. I pulled her harder into a hug and she sensed something was wrong.
"Ophelia, what's going on? Why are you back?"
"The Volturi, we went to check out the disappearances in Seattle. Victoria is leading it. She's using Riley as a shield, having him make the decisions."
"You came back to tell us this?"
I stopped and looked her in the eyes.
"Uhm, Felix and I started dating. He asked me to marry him, but I couldn't. I still..."
"Ophelia, Jasper never cheated on you. He was staying with two old friends of his. The girl you met has a mate."
I looked to her. Fuck. I was wrong? I threw everything away over an incorrect assumption? God I felt stupid.
"Did you tell him I was coming?"
She shook her head.
"But he'll look for me since I'm gone."
"I'm such an idiot. I didn't even let him explain. He probably wouldn't even talk to me."
"He still waits for you," she started, "to come back. He still loves you."
I heard someone else coming and prepared myself to see Jasper. He stopped in the tree line of the clearing. He looked at me.
"Jasper," I spoke.
I looked at him. He looked horrible. Like the life had been drained out of him although it had been over a century ago. I ran to him and hugged him. I breathed in his scent and instantly felt at peace.
"I'm so sorry Jasper."
His hand moved up to my back and he pulled me tight to him. He pulled his face away from me and smiled. He kissed me passionately and his hand went to my cheek.
"I'm so glad your home, darling."
I smiled and pressed my face into his chest, the smell of him making me feel at home again. The anxiety slowly creeped back into my mind and I could tell he sensed it.
"I'm so sorry Jasper, I love you so much."
Alice left I assumed to go back to the house. His eyes never left mine, it was as if he thought if he looked away I'd be gone.
"I'm not leaving again. I promise."
"You're apart of the Volturi."
"We'll go there, now, and I'll tell him I can't leave you. I'll leave them."
"If I go there he'll kill me."
"If I go there alone I won't be able to come back. They mess with your mind to keep you there. If I even thought of leaving I immediately thought about Aro's kindness and Fe-."
I cut myself off.
"You and Felix?"
A bolt of anxiety and shame ran through me.
"It was just something to keep myself in Volturra. The more I was alone the more I wanted to come back, I thought you'd cheated. I didn't want myself to go back."
He looked behind me and I heard someone approaching. Jasper pushed me behind him and in seconds he was on the ground, Felix pinning him.
"No! Felix please!"
Jasper kicked him off and Felix landed on his feet.
"You should be with me!" He yelled out not looking me in the eye.
"Felix I'm sorry, Jasper is my mate. I'm sorry for using you, it wasn't fair you don't deserve that."
He looked to me and looked back to Jasper. He ran at him and I thought of the bugs. He looked down at his arms and looked to me. My eyebrows furrowed as I imagined bugs exploding from his mouth. Suddenly bugs fell like a river from his mouth. He tried to shout out, but couldn't make any noise. I looked away quickly.
"I'm done with you and the Volturi. I'm done."
The bugs disappeared and Felix ran off. Jasper started walking over to me and I fell to my knees.
