She opens the message but doesn't respond. I curse out loud and text her again. I'm at her apartment and her cars gone, there's no lights on. A woman comes out of her building and I roll down my window. "Excuse me, do you know Cuba?" The woman smiles at me. "Yes I do dear, are you looking for her?" "Yes." The woman looks up at her window and then back at me. "She moved out a few days ago." "Thank you." I roll my window back up and punch the steering wheel.
"Fuck!" I try to rack my brain for ideas but it's still recovering from the previous nights events. When Cuba called earlier I really didn't expect it to be her, that's why I let the ninny answer my phone. "Fucking up left and right Tae. Get it together." I tell myself. My moms face pops into my head and I call her. "Mom! Do you know where Cuba's new apartment is?" "What's wrong son?" My mom sounded like I just woken her up. "I got a text from a random number and it was a picture of Cuba sleeping." My mom lets out a gasp and quickly tells me her new address.
When I pull up I see Cuba's car in the driveway. I make my way to the front door just to see that it's been left open a crack. I push the door open and slowly walk inside. I look around the house and nod my head. "Good taste." I whisper. I make my way to the stairs and slowly walk up. I see about five doors in the hallway and huff. I walk to the one on my right and open the door. It's a bathroom but I notice Cuba's straightener on the counter. There's a door inside the bathroom and I figure it connected to a bedroom. When I open the door I was right but the bed was a mess and Cuba's phone was sitting on the nightstand.
I quickly grab it and notice that my mom has called her a few times. I call her back off my phone and tell her Cuba isn't here. I check the other doors and find a closet and another bathroom. I open the last door to find Berlin and Misty fast asleep. "Hey wake up." Misty jumps up immediately and runs over to me. I have to shake Berlin to get her to even roll over. "What?" When she opens her eyes she jumps back and is out of bed before I could blink.
"What the hell are you doing here?" She shouts at me. "I think Cuba is in trouble." She looks at me as if I have lost my mind. "She in her room." She huffs and walks out into the hallway. She comes back with a perplexed look on her face. "What do you know?" She asks me. I show her the message and she tells me to call the police. I do just that's and when they arrive they make me and Berlin wait outside on the porch. The detective comes out of the house asks me what I know.
"Well I got a message from a unknown number and it was a picture of her sleeping." I hand him my phone and he calls the evidence team over. "Tap this phone and try to trace that number." They run back to their station. I see a all black tahoe pull up and wonder who it could be. A man and woman get out of the car and they are both wearing business suits.
"Dude it's the fucking fbi!" Berlin whisper shouts in my ear. They walk up to us and flag their badges. "Wow." And then I shake my head and introduce Berlin and myself. "I'm going to need you two to come down to the station." They turn and start walking back to their car. Misty follows behind Berlin as she climbed into the back of the truck. When I got in the man was behind the wheel.
We arrive at the police station and see a whole team of people there. We are lead to two separate rooms. As I sit at the metal table my mind can't stop thinking about Cuba. The door open and the woman from the house walks inside. "I'm ssa Hamil. I want to ask you a few questions." She sits down and I can tell she means business. "When was the last time you spoke to Cuba?" I think back to earlier and frown. "Earlier today around 4." She writes something down and then looks back at the glass. "How long have you known her?" And we go on like that for maybe 25 minutes.
She leads me into the waiting area and I see Berlin sitting there. She has a sad look in her eye. "Hey she's going to be fine." I knew I wasn't convincing because Berlin shrugged me off. "Did you tell them about Cuba and Mikey?" She whispers. "What? What about them?" She looks over at me in bewilderment. "They were seeing each other for like two months." My nostrils flare and I can feel the anger bubbling up. "And he couldn't tell me?!" Somehow I couldn't find the strength to be mad at Cuba because I hurt her more than this would ever hurt me.
"Not a shocker that you wouldn't have known." Berlin says. "What's that supposed to mean?" "You barley can stay sober why would I ever expect you to pay attention to my sister." She looks away from me. "How did you know?" I look at the ground. My heart is full of guilt. "Know what?" "That I wasn't sober anymore?" "That crazy look in your eye right now. That's how." I sigh and hang my head. "Did she tell you what happened?" Berlin lays a hand on my shoulder. "You really hurt her."
I groan and lean back in the chair. "And now she's gone.." I jump out of the chair and race to the front doors. "Where are you going?" I hear Berlin shout. I don't respond and I just keep going until I'm at my apartment building. I run inside and rush up the stairs. When I reach my floor I run to Blossoms door and start knocking. She opens the door and already looks annoyed. "What?" "Cuba's missing." She looks at me for a while then let's me inside.
"What do you mean?" "Someone took her. The FBI are here and all." Blossom takes a seat at her dinning room table and just stares at me. "It was probably your physco girlfriend." She takes a drag off her cigarette. "Blossom." "I'm serious. The way she had her brothers fuck you up the first time was a warning." I think about what she's saying but then doubt it. "What about Mikey?" Her eyes get big. "They could be working together." Blossom says casually.
I grab her phone and call the detective. "I think I have some more information." "Where are you?" I tell her to address and then wait for her to come.
