the funeral of my classmate kairi cosentino took place on a rainy day, unlike how he was in life. i imagine a great amount of people were at his funeral, their numbers and tears proving his life meant something.

both the funeral, and the wake, i didn't attend. i stayed in my room letting my tears soak into my pillow. i wiped my face with my forearm and slowly got up from bed. i walked over to my dresser and hesitantly grabbed my phone.

i unlocked it and re read the last message i ever sent him. it was just one short message. i had no idea if he ever saw it, but i pray he did.

i rolled the book cart through the silent library and collected stray books left on the tables. i pushed the cart into an aisle, grabbed a book and neatly placed them back in their correct spaces.

in the distance i heard sneakers squeaking across the floor, they kept getting closer and closer. i payed no mind to it and kept adding books to the shelves.

then a boy approached me, he looked about 5'1 from estimate and had dark brown hair that almost covered his eyes. 'sorry, i ran extra late from classes.' he panted as he bent over the book cart for support.

i glanced at the boy once then continued my job, he grabbed random books and started reading the covers. 'this is a library. don't make so much noise.' i replied quietly to the boy.

he looked at me with a smile, 'whatever you say' he then stood on his tip toes and added the books in his hand to the shelf. 'what are you doing?' i asked solemnly. 'putting the books back' he replied whilst shoving the books into the shelf.

'those are historical novels, and this is a shelf for history books' i said pointing to the sign hanging from the ceiling that labels the aisles. 'same difference' he giggled then continued his actions.

i roll my eyes then place my last book onto the shelf. when i finished i grabbed the cart and continued pushing it through the library. 'just teach me and i'll do it right!' the boy exclaimed following the taller like a lost puppy.

'you just need to learn category codes' the latter replied with monotone as the smaller stood in front of the book cart causing it to halt. the smaller whined, 'but there's so many!' the taller huffed then walked to the next aisle since the shorter boy was still in front of the cart.

he then again pushed the books into their correct order as the other boy pushed the book cart back and forth out of boredom. then the shorter gasped loudly, 'oh yeah, you gotta hear what i saw on the tv yesterday!'

he ran over to the other with a huge smile on his face, 'keep it down' that's all the other said as the boy ran his finger over the books the latter placed on the shelves.

'in the past, if there was something wrong with your liver, you'd eat a liver, and if something was wrong with your stomach, you'd eat a stomach. apparently that was supposed to cure all your illness. but i'm pretty sure no one would let me eat theirs...' the smaller sighed as he grabbed a book from the shelf and flipped through the pages aimlessly.

'excuse me? did you suddenly realize you're a cannibal?' the other boy says with a small hint of shock in his voice. he held one last book in his hand and ran his finger over the cover, scanning it of any marks or tears.

'what i'm saying is...you're the only one i can ask.' the older boy said as he put the book in his hands back. 'ask what?' the younger says as he placed the book he checked over into the shelf.

'oh cmon...,' the smaller started with a smile, 'you know...' he hinted as he started getting closer to the taller. 'huh?' was all the other said with a look of confusion all over his face.

the smaller smirked, still getting closer to the taller. 'you don't-,' the younger started as the smaller boy used all his force and pushed the taller onto the wall.

the boy's breath quickened as the other boy starred up at him with two hands on his chest. 'i want to eat your pancreas mattia!'
