4:30 pm.

mattia got in the car with eric and they headed to their destination. kairi had chosen the same restaurant they went to earlier in their relationship; cafe sakura.

mattia watched out the window as multiple trees passed by, he was so excited for this date with kairi. he couldn't wait to hold the boy in his arms without kairi wearing a hospital gown, or a beeping monitor disturbing the couple's silence.

the restaurant wasn't that far from mattia's house so they were there in 10 minutes, at most. mattia thanked eric as he got out of the car and walked towards the building. he got a table from them, and waited for kairi in the semi empty building.

he sighed, getting bored from waiting, then he took out his book. he was almost finished with it anyways so he figured he could finish it up while he waited. 'boo' a familiar voice said, which startled mattia. he immediately looked up and saw alejandro.

he playfully rolled his eyes while alejandro laughed, 'why are you here alone?' alejandro asked before sitting next to the boy, in the seat kairi was supposed to sit in. 'i'm waiting for kai. what're you doing here?' mattia answered.

'uh, i'm picking up food for alv' alejandro smiled which made mattia smirk. 'hmm. you guys dating yet?' mattia teased causing alejandro cheeks to become a bright red. the boy cleared his throat, obviously out of nervousness, 'umm, want some gum?'

mattia laughed at the boy who failed to change the subject, 'sure.' alejandro pulled out a thin piece of strawberry flavored gum and gave it to mattia. before they could finish their conversation alejandro's, well alvaro's, food was called. alejandro and mattia exchanged goodbyes and the boy left out of the small establishment.

mattia continued to reading, then he felt something buzz in his pocket.

you are a truly amazing person. my literal better half. i always wanted to possess you're characteristics. you're the most whimsical, gorgeous, and strongest person i know kai. you always make sure everyone is okay, and you have unforgettable kindness. i wish i had the ability to love, care, and nurture others the way you do. you're simply the best kai.

i want to eat your pancreas.. ❤️

mattia sent the message with no hesitation. he meant everything he said. he never forgot how kairi used to go on tangents about how he wanted to be 'spiritually' connected with mattia in the afterlife, and about the old studies that showed that if you ate the diseased part of someone they'd get better.

he knew kairi was joking, but he wanted to let kairi know that he never forgot the things he told him, whether it was stupid or loving, mattia wouldn't forget it. he looked at his phone for a couple more seconds before turning it off and reading his book again.

9:30 pm.

mattia had been sitting in the small cafe for five hours, and he'd be lying if he said he wasn't worried about kairi's whereabouts. maybe he blew me off, he did mention a sleepover with that girl... but he would've told me. right? yeah, he would. kai isn't like that. or maybe he was tired of mattia.. maybe he wanted to end things. no no, kai wouldn't do that. or would he?

mattia's mental battle was taking a toll on him as he watched multiple couples walk in and out of the building, but none of them being kairi. he constantly checked his phone, seeing if the boy had sent him any reply, but nothing appeared. he watched the clock tick down up until this moment, his brain thinking all of these terrible possibilities.

he took one more sip of his tea that he had ordered while he was waiting, then left some money on the counter. 'thank you for your patronage!' the old man who presumably owned the store shouted as mattia left the business.

he didn't know how he felt, he wasn't angry. but he wasn't sad either, his body was filled with anxiousness and worry that he had no time to be those other emotions. he hopped into the black car without giving a greeting to his driver, who just drove the silent boy home.
