kairi ran barefoot down the empty beach he forced mattia to bring him to. kairi let out a bunch of laughs as his feet padded against the hot sand. his hair kept flowing towards his face as multiple gust of winds hit him harshly.
mattia just observed the boy with a grin on his face. kairi stopped running when he became out of breath. he let the wind softly hit his face, making his hair go everywhere, and stepped towards the water.
the water was cold, in contrast to the sand that was heated due the june sun. he just let his toes in, not wanting to mess up his school slacks. he bent over and rolled them up to about his mid thigh before running in.
kairi giggled as he rolled up his huge hoodie sleeves then cupped his hands in the water, he threw the water he caught into the air excitedly. he couldn't stop smiling from how euphoric this feeling was.
once kairi got bored of the water, he trudged out and sat in the sand. he pulled his knees to his chest and watched many seashells wash up onto shore.
something caught his eye though. a bright green rock glistened in the sun along with a matching purple one. kairi snatched them up quickly then stood up. he dusted off his butt of any sand then stood towards the way of the light.
he put the rocks up in the air and let the sun shine through them. they looked almost like diamonds causing kairi to smile. he placed them in his pants pocket. he kneeled down on near the wet sand and drew shapes in it.
mattia walked up behind the boy, scaring him almost and just watched him. kairi smiled at the taller and kept drawing. mattia's heart flutter but quickly stopped as he remembered why they were here.
kairi wanted to come here as another one of his dying wishes. this, didn't sit right with mattia making it harder for him to be happy that kairi was happy.
'are y- are you...really dying?' mattia spoke up, kairi looked up at the boy. the sun hitting his face perfectly making him look ethereal. his chocolate brown eyes covered by long lashes blinked before his face graced another smile.
'sure am' kairi replied, standing up in the process. mattia wanted to hold the boy, and never let him go. he felt a new feeling about kairi... one he hasn't felt about anyone before.
'well you wanna get in the water with me?' he cheekily smiled which made mattia shake his head no. kairi pouted, grabbing the taller boys hands then swaying his arms side to side, creating a swaying effect.
'pleaseeee?' kairi pleaded, mattia looked at the boy who's face looked so adorable. 'fine.. but only for a bit, the sun is setting' mattia pointed to the sky as kairi giggled excitedly. mattia rolled up his pants as well, and followed the excited boy into the water.
kairi walked into the water, loving the cool feeling on his calves. he laughed a bit as he looked at the water, his distorted reflection looking back at him. mattia stood next to the boy, he looked forward at the different hues of pink and orange painting the sky.
'shouldn't you tell your best friend about your disease?' said mattia, breaking the silence between the two. kairi looked up at mattia, trying to read his face for any expressions. but there was none, 'no it's fine. she gets pretty emotional, y'know? she'd probably cry everytime she saw me if i told her. that wouldn't be very fun, would it?' kairi answered.
mattia shook his head no, then turned his head to look at the shorter boy who was already staring.
'you're the only one i can talk about this with. you're probably the only one... who can give me reality and normalcy. the doctors can only offer me reality, and my family overreacts to everything i say. they're desperately trying to pretend everything's normal. if genesis or the others found out, they'd probably act similarly or distant themselves. but you... you're the only one who'll spend normal everyday with me. while still knowing the reality, sooo hanging with you is fun!' kairi spilled truthfully.
mattia's eyes softened at the boy's honesty. he liked knowing kairi felt that way about him, this made mattia's feelings for the other boy grow instantly. he got lost looking into kairi's eyes that he didn't even notice kairi was giggling at the boy.
'okay enough of the sad talk mister' kairi exclaimed before splashing water onto the latter's face. mattia's face instantly scrunched in disgust as he cupped some water into his own hands, then threw it at the boy.
kairi gasped then did the same back, which caused the two teens to get into a water fight. both boys let out laughs as their clothes got drenched in the process. 'oka- okay matt- MATTIA YOU WIN' kairi gave up, trying to speak in between laughs.
mattia let out a chuckle as well, he looked at kairi who was already watching him. mattia smiled at him, 'stop staring'
'don't tell me what to do dino' kairi grinned, teasing mattia. mattia raised a eyebrow, 'dino? shut up midget' mattia bounced back taking kairi aback. 'midget?' kairi laughed as he flipped mattia off.
mattia adored his laugh, wishing he could listen to it on repeat. he analyzed the shorter boy's features, the way his face was utterly perfect to mattia. mattia was caught up in his gaze, he didn't notice that the sun had already set.
kairi took notice to mattia's staring. the younger's once cold aura was lifted, making kairi just melt in mattia's stare. he subconsciously leaned his head forward as if he was going to kiss the taller.
mattia mirrored his actions, getting closer to the older boy's face. they both closed their eyes when their lips were inches away before a blinding flashing light was pointing in their direction. 'i need you boys to leave the beach, it's way passed closing time and the beach is closed during the night' a hefty policeman spoke, startling the boys.
'leave in five minutes, or i'll give you a ticket' he declared while turning around and walking back to his car. both of the boys scampered out of the water quickly, and gathered their loose things.
they tossed their backpacks over their shoulders and grabbed their shoes from the sand. they bolted to the exit and panted from how fast they ran.
cockblock, kairi thought as he put on his sneakers, mattia doing the same and both boys walked home together.
