"How's the Luna?"

"She'll live." Xander answered Kai, trying to hide the doubt in his voice. "According to our doctor the bullet missed her heart by an inch. I supposed I have you to thank for that."

"It's nothing you have to thank me for." Kai said.

Xander ignored that and continued speaking. "So, with that. Is it safe to assume that you do not share your partner's point of view on mate bonds?"

"Whatever Amos said, I don't think he meant it." Kai defended his friend.

Xander's eyes narrowed and he could feel his anger starting to boil. "He called it a shackle Kai. He hated the mate bond so much, he tried to kill my mate so he could severe it."

Kai did not answer. He knows Amos is not the evil person the Alpha would like to believe him to be.

"How long have you known Amos?" Xander asked.

"We joined the council together almost a decade ago." Kai explained. "He's quiet, he keeps to himself, but he was never violent. When he became a Caster, I became his watcher, and we've worked together ever since."

"Do you always work in breaking bonds?" Xander asked.

"No." He answered. "That kind of request doesn't come very often. Some were assigned to a different Caster, yours were assigned to us."

"And he always did it enthusiastically." Xander stated, and there's no question about it.

"Amos is loyal to his job." Kai said.

"Yes, apparently he's so loyal he's willing to kill for it." Xander said his anger rising.

"Alpha Xander." Kai started to say, looking intently at the man before him. "I will never know why Amos did what he did, but I know Amos, he is not a murderer. Whatever happened, I'm pretty sure he didn't mean it."

"Tell me honestly Kai." Xander said once again ignoring Kai's attempt to defend Amos. "Is it natural for a Caster to bring a gun with him on a mission? He wouldn't have brought it to defend himself, after all he has you, his Watcher, to protect him."

Kai didn't have an answer to that. Even he didn't know about the gun.

"I have no way to tell you why all this happened." Kai said. "If you are trying to find an explanation to all this, you should ask Amos himself."

"I intend to." Xander said. "I just wanted to confirm that I was right in thinking that you are nothing like him."

"Amos is my friend." Kai said not bothering what the Alpha would think. "That hasn't changed, and it never will."

*Knock Knock*

Maia heard a knock on her office door and told the person to come in.

'Maia?"

"Nikki." She called. It was one of her assistants at the pack hospital.

"I have the result of that bullet you ask me to check on."

"Yeah?" Maia said expectantly. "What did it say."

"It's pretty weird actually."

"What do you mean?"

Instead of saying what she found out, she handed over the report to Maia which Maia took and quickly read.

Nikki watched the doctor read the report and saw her expressions changed. She expected it, after all she was also confused at what the report said, and it didn't make sense.
