10. Show Me What You're Looking For

Syracuse, NY     

I sat up that next morning when I heard the door slam shut.

                I looked over and saw Mom standing next to my bed, “What are you doing?”

                “Tomorrow night, we are having a party and I want you present.”

                I looked back at her, “I'm leaving tomorrow morning for Vancouver.”

                “I only ask of you of one thing Jordana.”

                I looked down at my phone as it was going off. 

                It was Jared calling me.

                I ignored his call as Mom looked back at me.

                “Just please think about this Jordana.”

                I watched her leave as I knew this couldn’t end well.

Vancouver

                Jared put his phone down as Shep looked up at him.

                Jared kissed the baby on the forehead as he looked over her side of the bed that was empty.

                It was empty once more.

                It was empty just like before.

                It was never going to have those memories back.

                She was never going to come back to him.

                Jared grabbed Shep and went down to his room putting Shep back into his bed.

                Jared went down the back steps to the kitchen.

                He opened the fridge and grabbed a beer when he heard something.

                He closed the door and saw Genevieve looking back at him.

                She looked down at the ground as her hair was a mess and her shirt was ripped open.

                Genevieve went down the hallway toward the back room.

                Jared followed her, “What happened to you?”

                “Just a crazy night out with the girls, you don’t have to dig into something that isn't there Jared.”

                Jared slammed his hand on the door as she went to close it, “Don’t look at me like I'm fucking stupid. I see it Genevieve and I know I'm not gonna be played as the fucking idiot.”

                Genevieve looked back up at him, “You don’t understand.”

                “You left my bed for another man’s bed. Oh I fucking understand.” Jared tossed the beer down the hallway as it smashed into the wall at the other end.

                He turned back to her, “You are never gonna see us again.”

                Genevieve went to step toward him when Jared put his hands up.

                “Your chance of getting back with me is over. I never want you back.”

                “Jared, please don’t do this to the boys.”
