Kit King
Oblivious.
He was so oblivious.
For a week I had been dropping hints but he was useless at picking them up.
I was about to give up with it.
There were no more hints to drop and the dance was next week.
I could say I didn't care but inside I really did.
"Can I ask you something? I know you're not fond of me-"
"I've never said that."
"Come on Hermione." I scoffed.
"I think you're brave for standing up for Harry when he needs it and I appreciate you doing that for one of my friends. I just don't trust the people you're friends with." She shrugged as she wrote another correction on my recent potions exam.
"You don't know them." I said, feeling protective of my house.
"I know I'm sorry, but Slytherins have reputations. Bad ones. Even you arent a ray of sunshine and kindness."
"Ok I see your point. But, I was just going to ask about the dance." I said and she finally looked up from my joke of a potions paper.
"Who are you going with?"
"I-I haven't been asked. But it doesn't matter. I don't have a dress." I shrugged.
"You haven't been asked? Oh. Interesting." She said and I frowned.
"Why is that interesting?"
"I just know someone who was interested in going with you. Guess he hasn't plucked the courage. Boys." She laughed and I frowned even more and leaned close to her.
"Who is it?"
"I'm not telling!" She giggled and I slumped back down. "I'll go with you to Hogsmead at the weekend if you wanted a dress." She shrugged
"You'd do that for me?"
"Girls have to stick together. No matter what house we're in." She smiled and started packing up her books. "And Kit, I'm here if you ever need to talk to a logical minded girl." She said and I smiled as she walked away.
It was nice knowing I had a friend.
I had the Slytherin boys but it wasn't the same as having a girl friend. Boys had no clue. Evidently.
But now I was curious.
Who would want to go to the dance with me?
It couldn't be one of the Slytherin boys.
And if it was, anyone apart from Draco, I would decline, and i think they knew that.
I was frustrated and knew I was just going to have to ask him myself.
I walked past the great hall and thankfully Blaise was there.
"Hey, wheres Draco?" I asked and he smirked.
"Courtyard" he responded and I nodded and continued to walk towards the courtyard.
I was nervous and I felt like I could throw up, but it had to be done. He was the only one I wanted to go with and if he wasn't going to ask me, I would ask him.
As I entered the courtyard I spotted Draco leaning against the large tree surrounded by the rest of our usual group.
I took a deep breath and walked towards him, planning on what I was going to say.
I opened my mouth to get his attention when a warm hand took hold of my wrist.
I turned and Fred Weasley was stood infront of me. But as I looked around him, I saw Hermione stood in the corridor that lead to the courtyard.
I shot her a quick look and she gave me a large smile.
"Erm. Hi?" I said and pulled my wrist out of his hand.
"Hello again." He grinned.
"I see the lips cleared up?" I grinned and he shook his head.
"It has. Thank you for that."
"You're welcome."
"Kit can I talk to you, for a moment?" He asked and I looked back to Hermione who was still watching on, her bottom lip inbetween her teeth.
"I-I, sure." I shrugged and Fred smiled at me.
"So, next week is the dance,"
"Well done." I giggled and he rolled his eyes.
"Before I make an idiot of myself, have you been asked by anyone?"
As soon as he asked the question I knew that he was the one that Hermione was talking about in the library.
My heart pounded.
"No I haven't but-"
"Will you go with me?" He said quickly and that's when my heart stopped beating for a moment and my breath hitched in my throat.
I was about to open my mouth to respond when I heard an angry set of footsteps coming towards us.
