Kit King
I hadn't spoken to Draco since the incident in the courtyard.
Truly I missed him.
But I was too stubborn and proud to talk to him without him apologising.
Part of me was sort of expecting something from him on Valentine's Day morning, but of course he didn't get me anything.
It made me feel silly for spending so much time worrying about the gift I had gotten for him.Shopping with Hermione had been stressful.
She had found her dress straight away and it took me a good hour or so to find one I even remotely liked. But we found one in the end and I had been excited to wear it.But now it was the night of the dance I couldn't bring myself to put it on. I watched as all the other girls got ready while I just sat on my bed. I waited until they had all moved from the dorm bathroom to do my makeup.
I put on my usual foundation, contour and highlight and made sure that my eyebrows were in a good shape and were even before focusing on my eyes. I decided to just wear my usual mascara with a line of silver eyeliner and I finished with my lips by adding a touch of red lipstick.
I left my hair how it was and slipped into my dress.Hermione had initially found the dress for me.
It was a long emerald green dress that fit snug to my waist, but the skirt was looser. It had a hole in the back but what it did have, was a string of silver jewels going across the top of my shoulders and down my back, before attaching back to the dress which sat on the middle of my back. The sleeves on the dress were lace and the neckline went straight across my chest and off my shoulders. The best part was that the dress had hidden pockets in the skirt, so I slipped the gift I had gotten Draco into one of the pockets and sighed.
I worried that it would be too much for a silly school dance, but it was all I had now so there was no going back.
I slipped my silver shoes on, and took a deep breath before leaving the common room.My hands and knees were shaking as I walked towards the bubble of noise coming from outside the great hall. I stopped just around the corner and prayed that the majority of people would already be in the hall.
But the noise bubble didn't go down and now I was just stalling.
Who would I go to?
Would anyone come to me?
Or would I be left standing there looking like an idiot.
"Pull yourself together Kit." I sighed to myself before I finally gathered the courage to walk round the corner.I held my head up high as I started down the steps. I held the skirt of my dress up so I didn't trip and focused on finding the faces I recognised.
I searched in the crowd and landed my eyes on Hermione.
As we met eyes she smiled and her, Harry and Ron walked to the stairs to meet me. As I got to the last few steps Harry held out his hand. I looked at him suspiciously but he just rolled his eyes with a small smile.
"Here." He said and I slipped my hand in his.
"Thank you." I smiled and let go of his hand as I got to flat ground.
"Kit, you look, beautiful." Hermione said and I thanked her.
"You all look lovely, you scrub up very nicely." I said feeling slightly awkward as I looked around and there were still eyes on me, knowing that one pair of those eyes belonged to Draco.
"Kit if you want to stay with us this evening you can." Hermione said and I shook my head.
"No no, it's ok. I'll find Blaise. Thank you though, all of you, for being kind to a poor Slytherin like me." I said and each of them smiled before walking away.
But I wasn't alone for long.A few moments after they walked away I felt someone behind me.
"Hello Katerina."
