Draco Malfoy
Everything was dull but it wasn't awful.
Not for me anyways.
Kit and I were officially together again and we didn't spend a moment away from each other.
Even at night we slept together.
And as long as I was around no one dared hurt Kit.
Or so I thought.

It was just before Christmas when it happened.
The Carrows were always looking for an opportunity to punish Kit.
But I never let them touch her.
That was until I left her alone for a few minutes while I went to the bathroom.
She was stood outside while I went in.
I had only been in the toilet for twenty seconds when I heard raised voices.
I knew Kit could handle herself so I wasn't worried.
That was until I heard the screaming.

I didn't waste another minute and ran out.
The scene before me was horrifying.
Kit was on the floor screaming in pain while the Carrows stood above her.
I looked between them frozen.
But as soon as I heard the word 'crucio' be muttered I snapped into gear.
"What the hell are you doing?! Expelliarmus" I yelled.
I bent down to Kit who was crying and curled into a ball, and also had a cut down her cheek.
"Draco step out of the way. She deserves to be punished. The little traitor."
"No! She doesn't deserve any punishment. And you'll do well to leave her alone or I'll kill you both myself and you know Snape will take my side." I snarled and the two stalked away from us looking defeated. That, I was happy about.

I turned my attention back to Kit who was now sat up and dabbing her cheek with her sleeve.
"Bastards." She coughed.
"What happened?"
"Nothing. I was stood and they felt it necessary to curse me." She sighed before standing up.
She wasn't as phased as I thought she'd be.
"Anyways,"
"Kit they just used an unforgivable curse on you."
"And?"
"And you're not phases at all. How are you not phased?" I asked and something inside her shifted.
She shifted her eyes away from me and folded her arms across her chest.
She shuffled around on her feet and my heart suddenly sank.
"Someones done it to you before haven't they?" I said and took a step towards her but she quickly backed away with glassy looking eyes.
"Kit?"
"Just, just drop it ok?"
"No, Kit you-"
"Just leave me alone."
She walked away quickly and although she didn't say it, it confirmed in my mind that this had happened to her before.

It wasn't hard to find her after she walked off.
Her only safe space now was her room.
The Carrows couldn't get her in there.
I knocked and there was no answer which made me nervous.
If she wasn't in here then I had no idea of where she could be.
"Kit?"
I leaned against the door and slowly opened it.

It was dark inside and it took me a while to get used to the darkness but with the help of a candle I saw her curled up in a blanket in the corner of the room by the window.
I sighed and closed the door before shrugging off my jacket and walking over to her.
As I got closer I saw her cheeks were wet with tears which made my heart break.
I sat beside her and opened my arms to her.
She grabbed her blanket and moved into my arms before wrapping the blanket around us both.
It felt odd.
I felt happy and in love in a place that had become so dark.

"It's happened a few times before." Kit said as I cradled her in my arms.
"What has?"
"Crucio" she said and I sighed and closed my eyes for a moment.
"Oh Kit. Who would do that to you?" I asked.
"Do you even have to ask? Dad did it a few times after he had been very very mad at me." She sniffled and I hugged her tighter.
"How could he do that? No matter how mad someone is you don't do that to your child." I said and felt an incredible sadness for her.
"Sometimes he would get mad if I argued against him. And other times he would do it to make me stronger. But it hurt. It still hurts. He believed if he cursed me enough I'd become immune to it." She explained and I shook my head.
"He's delusional. He deserves to be in Askaban." I growled.
"You never get used to the pain but I can brush it off easily now." She sighed and I shook my head.
"I wish I could have protected you from all of that. Your parents don't deserve you."
"It's ok. You're here now." She said and I nodded.
"And no one is ever going to hurt you again Kit. I swear that to you."
