"sir, we found a fingerprint."
it was not exactly what detective jones wanted to hear from his fellow officer. he made it clear to the forensics team that they were allowed to take their time but he didn't understand that it wasn't so much their work, it was more the computer's work.
the stubborn detective told his fellow officer to show him the information. the two walked into the forensics department and looked at the computer showcasing the fingerprint database and the match.
"wait, sir, i contacted their managers," the officer piped up, doing her best not to avoid her boss's gaze. she knew it would probably make him mad, but she has a duty as an officer and they promised to inform manager kwon about any news.
detective jones stopped in his tracks and let out an angry shout, "what did i tell you, officer wang?! any information about the suspect has to be told to me first! we have patrons waiting to gift us with lots of money if we pin this on bighit. we can't have the news spreading that we have a suspect in this case. we needed time to find more evidence to put on those boys we can't do that if we found the kidnapper!"
all the officers in the precinct stood silent at his shouts. interfering would finally bring justice into this place or cause them to lose their jobs. not that he had any real power in doing that, but he had managed to convince the captain of the precinct to be receivers of some big cash transfer if they convince the world that bighit was responsible for the kidnapping.
you'd be surprised how many people are willing to pay for that.
"i-i'm sorry sir but we promised them that as soon as we got a fingerprint we would inform them i-i was just doing my job—"
"well do it somewhere else!"
with a red face he walked away and into forensics since he couldn't stand to be in her presence anymore. these people weren't listening anymore and now time was running out. he needed to catch those boys and do it quickly.
"you!" he yelled at a boy at the lab. "read me what's on the computer, who's the suspect?"
the boy scrambled out of his seat and put on his glasses to read the screen.
"her name is mia valesquez. female. hispanic/latino, age 18, she graduated high school last year and currently works at a bookstore in NJ. we have an address a-and a phone number."
detective jone's narrowed at the screen. "do we have a visual?"
a few clickity clacks on the computer and the boy showed an image of mia. it was a really recent photo since she recently got her driver's license and had taken the photo the day she dyed her hair. one problem, she didn't have glasses on. after she graduated she was committed to wearing contacts but she gave up soon after.
"it's gotta be her," he muttered to himself. "dang. don't call NJ police until a few hours, that will buy us some time. i'll stall."
two officers came into forensics and informed him of manager kwon's arrival.
what to do what to do, jones thought to himself. he knew that kwon had begun to become suspicious of him and maybe all of that can go away if he pretended to act hopeful for jeongguk's return. it might make them even more suspicious.
"bring him in."
___
"so we got her?" mr. kwon laughed in relief, glancing at the bts boys around them, another surprise detective jones didn't want. not only was kwon here but so were his boy toys. and they all had that same look on their face. suspicion.
