jeongguk bit his lip nervously as mia read the book titled "when you wish upon a star" to him, the words translated in front of him as he took in every piece of the very short book. mia has read through it briefly on her way home on the bus, but now as she read it aloud, more and more things became clear only to become unclear again.
"...and they all lived happily ever after, the end!" mia ended cheerfully, quickly closing the book.
the line caught his attention and he quirked a brow at her. "did it really say that?" for the one second of joy he allowed for himself while he wasn't wallowing himself in guilt throughout the reading of the book, his eyes lit up a little as he glanced at mia.
mia shyly shook her head and said, "nooo. it doesn't say that. the ending is just kind of dry. the author doesn't seem to finish his thoughts."
jeongguk gave a small chuckle which turned into a sigh as he pondered on the book's contents.
"so I'm kind of confused, and you?"
"yep."
mia passed the book to jeongguk across from her, sitting on her desk while she sat at the edge of her bed.
"well let's go over what happened right?" mia began with a shaky breathe. here this book was a step closer to what happened to them and who knows what it meant.
"sure," said jeongguk, though he knew the book had already confirmed what he had been thinking; it was all his fault and a star had allowed it to happen. the idea taehyung told him about was real and now jeongguk and mia were not the only ones to experience it.
"so carl james, regular old business man, is away on a business trip away from his beloved family. this happens a lot and it takes a toll on him and the fam. he realized how much he missed them so much that it hurt to even look at them when he was facing timing them during break time. then—"
"—he made a wish that he'd be able to see them, and suddenly they appeared by his side through the cell phone screen through a blue cloudy portal," jeongguk finished with a sigh.
mia glanced at him with a slight furrowed brow. are we finishing each other sentences now? oh my gosh we're such goals!
jeongguk noticed the look and lifted up his hands in surrender, "oh i'm sorry! i didn't mean to interrupt you i didn't realize i was—it's just i've seen so many shows where people tend to finish each other sentences when they figure things and i think i did that out of habit."
"no no! don't apologize," mia quickly interjected. "i'm fine haha. i like to think to do that too. plus i like that we can finish each other sentences. it's super cuu-ool."
gosh, I've never seen him so flustered before, what's up with him? mia thought.
jeongguk gave a small smile, realizing she has given him more than one reason to feel comfortable and normal and he still doesn't know what might make her upset. thought his uncertainly mainly stems from the different ways in which his language addresses certain situation and people. english doesn't focus to much on asking permission to say or do certain things.
"carl made a wish, and it says he wished it at the same time a 'shooting star' flew by and he strongly believed that the star is what granted him the wish," mia pointed out, trying to bring the conversation back.
"which means one of us had to have made a wish," jeongguk finished. his heart beat quickened as he did his best to hide any sign of guilt on his face.
"hmm i don't think only one of us had to," mia thought. "you think the stars or the universe would force something to happen to someone else just because one person wished it? it has to be mutual."
